News of the Parish
Welcome is the second major habit of the Invite-Welcome-Connect ministry. We both take our lead from Jesus and encounter Jesus in the habit of welcoming. Jesus was curious about others and sought them out. He looked at those different from himself and noticed them instead of avoiding them. He saw in those different from himself the "possibility of blessing." This is certainly contrary to the "don't talk to strangers" and "stay in your lane" attitudes that are often prevalent today. Opening ourselves up to others is an investment of time and energy, of listening to and getting to know someone new.  Welcoming is opening up space in our hearts to love that person. Indeed, in such encounters, the world can be made new. As a church family, we are encouraged to ponder what it would be like to have a church that truly sees each other.

New 1, 2, 3 Challenge from the Invite-Welcome-Connect ministry:
  • Share 1 story of welcome
  • Meet 2 new parishioners
  • Give 3 ideas that can make St. John's even more welcoming
Send your responses to Fr. Michael at mcannon@stjohntampa.org.
Wednesday Afternoon Sunday School
The Sunday Adult Formation Group continues to meet via Zoom each Wednesday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Beginning June 17, St John's parishioner Dr. Hal Wiley, a presenter and board member of the School of Pastoral Care, an international healing ministry, for over twenty years, will present a 3-session series on Healing.    Each week will begin with a presentation on a different topic, followed by group discussion: June 17: What is healing? June 24: What is healing prayer? and July 1: What is the relationship between the church and healing?    All are welcome; if you have not previously attended the Wednesday afternoon sessions, contact Deacon Kathleen at  kmoore@stjohnstampa.org  or 785.9400 for the login information.
Thanks to our Gardeners!
Thanks to our parish Gardening Guild  for keeping the Chapel of the Resurrection a welcoming space for prayer, meditation, and silence.
Worship In Person: Guidelines and Information
We have resumed in-person services with appropriate controls in place. The services are said Morning Prayer at 8:00 a.m. and Choral Morning Prayer, or Matins, at 10:00 a.m. The 10:00 a.m. service is also streamed on Facebook. We will continue to offer services of Morning Prayer on Sundays until it is safe to resume the distribution of Communion.
Safe distancing procedures are in place for entering, seating, and exiting. Safe distancing in seating results in a maximum capacity of 100 people at each service. Face coverings are highly recommended, not only for your safety, but for the safety of others. While all will be welcomed, we recommend that those parishioners over age 65 and those with underlying health conditions consider remaining safe at home and participating comfortably in the streamed service.  For more information on the in-person services, click here.
Sunday School for children will continue to be conducted virtually. For information on how to participate, please contact Ayana Grady at agrady@stjohnstampa.org . The nursery will remain closed.
Action Items and Opportunities
Exploring Love INC Volunteer Opportunities
St John's is one of 14 partner churches of Love INC of Metro Tampa, an organization dedicated to connecting neighbors in need with churches and community organizations that can meet those needs.  If you are interested in exploring the possibility of becoming a Love INC volunteer, you are invited to participate in a 7-week online study of the principles of Redemptive Compassion (http://redemptivecompassion.org/wp/), an approach to helping others that is transformational rather than just transactional.  The study group, led by Love INC Executive Director Ann Doyle, will meet on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. beginning July 1; a free study guide will be provided.  Space is limited. If you are interested, RSVP by July 17 to: Ann M. Doyle at adoyle@loveinctampa.org or 541.7366, or contact Deacon Kathleen at 785.9400 for more information.
Making a Gift to Your Parish
There are many ways to make a one time or recurring gift to your parish! The work of the parish goes on and is more important than ever, and we appreciate your support. Please note, though we have resumed in-person services, we do not pass the collection plates, they will instead be in the rear of the church.
