Cornerstone Kids Christmas Performance
|
After the wonderful Christmas party coordinated on Monday by Shawn O'Brien & other St. John's parishioners, the children of Cornerstone Kids performed for a packed house of parents and other supporters that included Father Connelly, Deacon Moore, and Harry Hedges on Thursday, December 14. The kids were quite animated as they sang & danced during "The Twelve Days of Christmas" and "Jingle Bell Rock," but the favorite performance is always the moving closing number, "A Child is Born" by the youngest in the group. Following the program, everyone was fed and then it was time to distribute the wealth of presents provided by St. John's and St. Mary's churches. Thanks to everyone who was involved in any way, big or small!

Lincoln-Douglass Ball Tickets Available
|
St. John's has purchased ten seats to the twenty-eighth annual Lincoln-Douglass Ball, the major fundraising event for Cornerstone Kids. The event will take place on Saturday, February 17, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Embassy Suites at the University of South Florida. If you would like to attend and support Cornerstone Kids, RSVP to Regan in the parish offices by email or by calling 259.1570 before January 29.
The proceeds from the Ball will benefit our partner Cornerstone Kids, Inc., the after-school program located in Tampa Heights. The program is designed specifically to reach at-risk, inner city children from age 5 to11 who reside in lower income, single-parent households. The mission of Cornerstone Kids is to assist in their educational, spiritual, and emotional development in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment.

Action Items and Opportunities

|
A great seasonal opportunity awaits those willing to make a small sacrifice of their time and talents. On February 11, we will have the Annual Parish Meeting and the kitchen crew will be serving a simple lunch. We always need volunteers. In addition, the Lenten Dinner series of 2018 begins February 21 and continues for five weeks. If you would like to be a part of either of these wonderful ministries; come and join us in the kitchen. You don't need to be a chef ... if fact, you don't even need to know how to cook. There are so many easy jobs that are available for the willing, decorating, table setting, serving etc. Contact me at davekenyon@gmail.com or 404.5000. In conjunction with the Lenten Series there will be the Confirmation classes for adults and young adults. This is a great opportunity to see the Church at work ... empowered by the love of Christ; the eating, laughing, and fellowship is a joy to behold. You don't have to sign up for all five weeks - do one, do two: whatever your schedule will allow.

In the 12-session study,
Christian History Made Easy, Dr. Timothy Paul Jones takes you through the most important events in Christian history from the time of the apostles to today. He brings to life the fascinating people and events that shaped our world. This isn't dry names and dates. It's full of dramatic stories told with a touch of humor. This series, based on Dr. Jones' popular award-winning book Christian History Made Easy, ties in spiritual lessons believers can glean by looking at the past, and shows how God was still working in his church despite all the ups and downs.
