Thursdays in Lent Begin March 6
The Ash Wednesday liturgy in the Book of Common Prayer includes an invitation to observe a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God's holy Word. Over five Thursdays in Lent, St John's clergy team will lead a series of prayer and study sessions focusing on responses to the invitation. Fr. Connelly will open the series on March 5, followed by Fr. Goodheart on March 12, Fr. Cannon on March 19, Fr. Reho on March 26, and Deacon Moore on April 2.  Each week, we will begin with the liturgy of the Stations of the Cross in the church at 5:00 p.m., followed by a program in the parish hall from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. For more information, contact Deacon Moore at 785.9400 or kmoore@stjohnstampa.org.

Clergy Serve at Faith Cafe
Clergy from the Tampa Deanery, including our own Fr Cannon, waited on and bused tables at Faith Cafe this past week.  Around 80 people with food insecurity receive a healthy and hearty meal at this local ecumenical mission every day.  St John's has a long-standing relationship with Faith Cafe.  Parishioners Sally Wiley and Mary Beth Carastro serve on the board, and our St John's team serves meals on the third and fourth Fridays of each month.  Volunteers are always needed.  Go to faithcafe.org to learn more, or ask your clergy or the St John's representatives about it.  This is a wonderful way to serve that just makes you feel so good!

We want to provide support in any time of need or crisis. Please call the parish offices at 259.1570 or  click here to email us to let us know when you need us.

Do you know the real story behind the New Testament? We all share a fascination for discovering "the rest of the story." We enjoy learning the behind-the-scenes facts about seemingly familiar events. In the eight-session video Bible study The New Testament You Never Knew, well-known Bible scholars N.T. Wright and Michael F. Bird team up to take you on a tour of the story behind the explosive story.

You will discover things you never knew about Jesus' baptism and journey into the wilderness, the meaning behind his parables and miracles, the significance of his death and resurrection, the incredible expansion of the early church into the Greco-Roman world, and how the transforming mission of Jesus can still turn the world upside down today.  Through reading the New Testament we continually discover that God indeed keeps his promises, but those promises don't always look like what people expected, especially when it comes to Jesus. Come join the journey with N.T. Wright and Michael Bird and they will help you understand the New Testament you never knew!
