Lenten Workshop
Lent begins in the wilderness. The Spirit guides Jesus into the wilderness where he comes face to face with temptation and struggle. And in his forty days of fasting, resisting, and struggling, Jesus is shaped for ministry.

Our season of wilderness and shaping as a church family begins with our annual Lenten Workshop on Sunday, February 23rd from 12-2pm in Whitford Hall.

In our time together we will share a meal and participate in several activities aimed at preparing us and sustaining us for the journey. All ages are welcome to join in the preparations.

This Is Us
Are you interested in knowing more about Duke Memorial: who we are, what we are about, what drives us, what membership means? Then please join us the first four Sundays in March (3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 3/22) for This is Us.

In our time together we will hear some of Durham’s story, the United Methodist story, Duke Memorial’s story, and your story. We will meet at church before worship from 9:00-10:15 am. You will hear from a variety of voices from our community and our church. If you would like to join us or have questions, please email Pastor Kris.
Stephen Minister Training
Have you gone through a “rough time”? Perhaps it was a disappointment, a loss of a career or a marriage, or maybe the loss of a loved one.
Think about how you recovered.
 - Who and what helped?
 - Did someone help you?
 - How long did it take?
Have you thought about ways you might be able to help someone else? You don’t have to have answers for someone, but you could offer a listening ear. You might consider becoming a Stephen Minister!
With the training you would receive, you could become “a wounded healer”. For someone who does not need a counselor, you could be a Stephen Minister who “walks with someone and listens”.
You would learn and practice how to care...
 - How to listen and not dictate or judge
 - How to be empathetic
 - How to pray for and with someone
 - How to let someone recover “their way”

DMWS Food Drive

Duke Memorial Weekday School is having our annual food drive for Urban Ministries of Durham.  The food collection will end February 21.   Our children are learning about showing love to our neighbors in Durham.  We also use the canned food in math and science activities. Donations can be added to the items near the school office or delivered to the church office.
Housing for UM Missionaries

Mary Zigbuo and her husband, retired UM missionaries from Liberia, are going to be in North Carolina from May to November 2020. They are looking for an affordable housing option in this area (ideally in or around Durham, but they are willing to entertain broadening their search). They would like to find a small apartment in someone's home with a separate entrance, a small house or perhaps a parsonage sitting empty which they might be able to rent short term.
If you know of any such possibilities, please contact SusanHarsh-Cafferty

Biblical storytelling recaptures the oral tradition of Scripture. Before the Bible became a written word, it was a spoken word. The art of biblical storytelling is the practice of telling stories by “heart.”
