Welcome, Amber!
Big Bend Cares/Care Point is proud to celebrate its 40th anniversary of providing comprehensive care and promoting sexual health for individuals with HIV/AIDS across the eight-county region surrounding Tallahassee.
As part of this milestone, the Board of Directors is pleased to announce Amber R. Tynan as the agency’s next CEO. Following a nationwide search that garnered over 100 applicants and included a rigorous two-interview process, the Board’s decision to remain local paid off with the selection of Ms. Tynan, whose extensive leadership experience and community insight uniquely qualify her to guide the organization into its next chapter. Ms. Tynan has joined Big Bend Cares/Care Point as President as of April 1, 2025, and will assume the official role of CEO on October 1, 2025.

Last year on February 20th, DJ DEMP was given a Key To The City as well as a Proclamation declaring February 20th as the official DJ DEMP Day. With his continual heart of giving, he planned his first official DJ DEMP Day Community Resource Fair for the residents of Florida Sun Estates and the adjacent communities.
Huge thanks to DJ DEMP Foundation for an amazing day at their community resource distribution! We are so proud to stand with him and be a part of the local wellness network invited out to share in the fun and fellowship. Our Education Department had a great time tabling and distributing health materials, hoping to be a part of the celebration for years to come!

Keep an eye out for more details on social media! | | National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day and National Transgender HIV Testing Day | | April 10 is National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. According to the CDC, people ages 13 to 34 accounted for 60% of estimated new HIV infections in 2022. This awareness day was launched to encourage young people to talk about HIV and AIDS. |

World Health Day, celebrated on April 7, will kick off a year-long campaign on maternal and newborn health. The campaign, titled Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures, will urge governments and the health community to ramp up efforts to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths, and to prioritize women’s longer-term health and well-being.
Helping every woman and baby survive and thrive
This task is critical. Tragically, based on currently published estimates, close to 300,000 women lose their life due to pregnancy or childbirth each year, while over 2 million babies die in their first month of life and around 2 million more are stillborn. That’s roughly 1 preventable death every 7 seconds.
Listening to women and supporting families
Women and families everywhere need high quality care that supports them physically and emotionally, before, during and after birth.
Health systems must evolve to manage the many health issues that impact maternal and newborn health. These not only include direct obstetric complications but also mental health conditions, noncommunicable diseases and family planning.
