Welcome to the December issue of The Wellness Corner - the e-newsletter for our community of advocates and enthusiasts - from Big Bend Cares and Care Point Health & Wellness Center.
In this issue, we wrap up AIDS Walk; celebrate a Holiday Angels milestone; see how are clients get to enjoy the holiday season; look forward to the next Artopia; highlight World AIDS Day; and share other ways you can support our mission.
Every day, Big Bend Cares and Care Point continue to provide essential assistance and quality health care to those we serve in the Tallahassee and Big Bend area (Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor and Wakulla counties). Our services include free HIV and STD testing, primary health care, dental care, lab work, sexual health education, courtesy transportation services, home-delivered meals, co-pay assistance for medications, and case management services.
These services wouldn't be possible without your generous donations, support, and contributions. To you reading this newsletter- thank you for helping us provide health care and much more to those in need - we appreciate you!
Thank you for reading!

Though we needed to postpone, everyone came together on the evening of October 17th to ensure the 2024 Tallahassee AIDS Walk was a success! We are so grateful to all of our participants, sponsors, and volunteers for showing up and supporting the fight against HIV/AIDS in our community. We truly couldn't have done it without you!
The weather was great and spirits were high as we walked around the Southwood Nature Trail, gathering after to celebrate with community. With your help, we were able to raise over $28,000 that will become continued community care to support education, prevention, and treatment efforts for our clients - our neighbors in need.

We are proud to announce that we have reached full sponsorship for all 333 children enrolled in this year's Holiday Angels program! Thanks to everyone that helped spread the word and shared social media, our community really outpoured some generosity, far-exceeding our Thanksgiving goal.
We are excited to connect the presents to our clients, and remind everyone that the gift drop-off deadline is Friday, December 6th. Gifts can be taken to our main office at 2201 S Monroe St., or any of the 5 Centennial Bank locations here in town.
If anyone you know is still interested in supporting the program, financial donations do still help, as we may need supplemental gifts, gift cards for the clients, or wrapping supplies. To donate, click the button below, and be sure to put "Holiday Angels" in the comment:

Client Thanksgiving Dinner
Thanks so much to our staff, volunteers, and Board Members that came out to help serve at the Client Thanksgiving Dinner on November 18th!
We were joined by many hands helping at St. Paul's United Methodist Church for our first time hosting the dinner there, and had an amazing turnout of almost 100 people, including clients and their guests.
Each year, your support and gifts help us provide ways to improve the quality of life for clients, like this Thanksgiving Dinner, and the upcoming December Holiday Party. These are great opportunities for service, that see our clients get a hot meal, holiday festivities, and maybe even a giveaway turkey!

Artopia 2025 Call for Cover Art
Artopia 2025 needs a face, and each year, we put out an open call for Cover Art! The Cover Art is the visual that will guide all of Artopia's promotional materials, including all design for the website, social media, printed materials, advertising, and more.
This is a great opportunity to be seen by the art-buying and art-creating community in Tallahassee, so we want to encourage everyone to spread the word to any artist they know about submitting some work!
Cover Art can be any medium, we just recommend canvasses have a minimum 2' length and height measurement. To submit, the artist just needs to email a high-res photo of the piece to ssmallwood@bigbendcares.org, and include basic details on medium, dimensions, and title. Multiple pieces can be submitted.

Deadline for submissions: Friday, January 31st
World AIDS Day is December 1st. About 39 million people across the globe were living with HIV in 2022, according to UNAIDS. On this awareness day, the world comes together to show solidarity in the fight against HIV, to express support for those living with the virus, and to remember those lost to the epidemic.
Learn more about this year's campaign, Take the Rights Path, at www.unaids.org/en/2024-world-aids-day.

Givers Every Month (GEM) Club
Last year, over 3,730 no cost food bags were given to our clients in Tallahassee and the Big Bend facing food insecurity because of our GEM Club members.
And GEM Club members make it possible for us to provide FREE comprehensive health care to our uninsured patients, with no sliding fee scale.
What is a GEM Club member?
It’s you and me - neighbors helping neighbors. GEM (Givers Every Month) Club members donate monthly and 100% of their gifts go towards food and health care for our neighbors in need. Want to become a GEM Club member and help us serve others? Click the button below:
