VWU Theatre Department Presents "The Shield" March 5-8
 The VWU Theatre Department's spring production hits the stage March 5-7 at 7:30 p.m. and March 8 at 2:00 p.m. in the Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center. The comedy show is based on Menander's ancient Greek comedy and adapted for modern stage by Dr. Travis Malone.

When a soldier's broken shield is found in battle, all presume the worst. Greedy relatives lay claim to the soldier's estate, and with lovers separated and fortunes taken, it falls to the soldier's servant to set everything right .The servant's brilliant plan and a surprise reunion help the survivors discover laughter, love, and hope in the aftermath of war, revealed in this daring new adaptation.

22nd Annual Empty Bowls Charity Dinner

The Ceramic Designers Association partners with Virginia Wesleyan to host the 22nd Annual Empty Bowls Charity Dinner on Friday, March 13 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in Boyd Dining Center.

Empty Bowls, an international grassroots movement, happens annually in many communities across the nation to help raise money and awareness in the fight to end hunger. All funds raised benefit local charities. The event has been hosted at Virginia Wesleyan since 1999 and features:

  • Hundreds of hand-crafted bowls to choose from, made and donated by CDA members, VWU students and faculty, and other local artists;
  • A symbolic soup-kitchen meal and musical entertainment;
  • A silent auction featuring pottery and artwork donated by CDA members and other artists.

Tickets are $25 prior to the event and $30 at the door.
