Scholars' Academy Prepares High School Students for College Success
Students from Three States Experience
The Wesleyan Way 
 
Twenty rising high school seniors from 11 schools experienced college life June 25-July 1 in a fast-paced immersion program that included classes and social activities and challenged them to debate issues and hone their communication and leadership skills. "The Scholars' Academy prepares students to return to their high schools and communities as stronger leaders who are ready to contribute in new ways," said Jeremy Pittman, vice president for admissions and financial aid.

Defining Moments, Dreams Fulfilled
 
Residence:
Ft. Collins, Colo.

Hometown:
West Baden, Ind., graduated from high school in Fort Myers, Fla.

Family:
Married Georgia (1943-2007) in 1965; three children - Lori, Doug and Mike;
six grandchildren - Mallory, Dylan, Easton, Hudson, Grace and Crosby

Education:
Ph.D., Indiana University, Education Leadership
M.S., Indiana University, Education Leadership
B.A., Kentucky Wesleyan College, Health and Physical Education

Career:
38 years in public education in various roles, retired as principal of Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins

"I feel an obligation to give back to the school that prepared me so well, and I do so in hopes that others may be inspired to give what they can, as well. I owe Wesleyan a great deal. I grew up there, and by the time I left in 1964, I was ready to go out into the world. I enjoy investing in Wesleyan's future and helping new Panthers have similar experiences."

The Alumni Hall of Fame perpetuates the memory of those who have brought distinction to the name and reputation of the College. The Class of 2017 honors four individuals: Lydia Dorman '82, Rep. Walter (Jody) Richards '60, Dr. Kim M. (Cecil) Schuster '88 and A.J. Smith '71. Each month from now through October, The Wesleyan Way will feature one of the inductees. The Alumni Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Dinner will be hosted at the Owensboro Convention Center on Saturday, Oct. 7, as part of Homecoming 2017.
 
"My selection to the Hall of Fame is very meaningful to me. I was quite excited when I got the news, and I keep thinking about how much this would mean to my mother.  Kentucky Wesleyan molded a young guy through great teachers and experiences. I am deeply grateful."

The second year of our Downs After Dark on Millionaires Row event featured a South Beach-themed evening, racing under the lights, and the running of the Kentucky Wesleyan College Classic on Saturday, June 17.  Nearly 60 Wesleyan alumni and friends enjoyed another fantastic night at historic Churchill Downs.  A group of alumni also had the opportunity to visit The Paddock, watch the College's sponsored race trackside, and present the winning owner, trainer and jockey with the trophy.

 Wife - Melissa, son - Caleb, who will be 3 in September

Dr. Watson arrived at Kentucky Wesleyan in Aug. 2016. He has initiated new courses and is introducing a medicinal chemistry course in the upcoming academic year. The course will focus on various targets and how drugs interact with them. The class will also discuss drug discovery and development, including lead optimization and intellectual property.

The Chemistry Program is implementing seminar courses for juniors and seniors in the major to familiarize students with the chemical literature and how to find, use and cite articles appropriately.
