Scholars' Academy Introduces High School Seniors to
The Wesleyan Way

Thirty-seven rising high school seniors from four states (Ky., Ill., Tenn., Nev.) and 10 Kentucky counties experienced college life and The Wesleyan Way in the fast-paced immersion program from June 24-30. Attendees lived in dorms, attended classes, explored downtown Owensboro and participated in service learning activities at Girls Inc., Boulware Mission and Habitat for Humanity. Classes explored leadership traits, creativity, group dynamics, values and ethics, and accountability. The students were honored at a closing ceremony in Rogers Hall. The inaugural Scholars' Academy was held in June 2016. Over 50 percent of the 2016 and 2017 classes enrolled at Wesleyan.

Four rising sophomores who are 2016 Scholars' Academy graduates were residential counselors this year. Read their thoughts on Scholars' Academy here.
Wesleyan Lands $165,000 in Estate Commitments

Kentucky Wesleyan College has received two estate commitments totaling $165,000 to benefit the school's General Scholarship Fund. Ben '59 and Linda "Eni" (Huffaker) Abbott '59 have designated $100,000 to the College, and the school received $65,000 last week from the estate of the late Dr. Alberta (Chapman) Hall '53.

"Kentucky Wesleyan is where we met one another and made lifelong friendships," said the Abbotts. "We had professors who cared about us as individuals and helped us chart our own paths, which is what a Wesleyan education is all about.  We enjoy giving back to a place that means so much to us."

Ready to Lead - New Alumni Association President
Sam Taylor '97

Sam Taylor became president of the Kentucky Wesleyan College Alumni Association on June 1.  A native of Orlando, Fla., he played football at Wesleyan and through his experiences at the College and in the Owensboro community as a student, he chose to stay.

"I hope to be a voice for those alumni who feel they have never been heard. By using our intentional focus on points of interest, we hope to re-connect with several alumni who have been disconnected for some time. We plan to host events designed around these focus areas, so we can create new interest in Wesleyan."  - Sam Taylor '97
