Thursday Evening Adult Ed: Gnostic Gospels
Thursday, June 6, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in Rodney Chapel
The Gnostic Gospels and the Gospel of Thomas with Alan Fox, University of Delaware Professor Philosophy and Religion. The "Gnostic" Gospels are a collection of non-canonical texts, which - like the canonical Gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John - are narratives testifying to the Messiah-ship of Jesus. We will consider the reasoning behind the early Church's decision to include the familiar four and exclude the rest. We will contextualize the texts by establishing the history and significance of Gnosticism as it existed before and after the rise of Christianity. Free admission; good will offering applied towards speaker honorarium. For more information and to register, visit
www.cil-de.org.
