Coming Up
"Girl Talk" Book Group
Thursday, July 12, 10:00 a.m.
in the Ruth Christie Room
Please join us for our meeting on Thursday, July 12, at 10:00 a.m. in the Ruth Christie Room. We will talk about The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore. It tells of two young men each named Wes Moore who lived blocks from each other in Baltimore. One became a Rhodes Scholar; the other is serving a life sentence in prison. What happened? And what role does racism play in their lives? Join us for our discussion of this timely book.
A Reminder About the Weekly Word
Continuing in July, the Weekly Word e-newsletter will run every other week. We WILL have a Weekly Word on July 12 and July 26. Please mark these Thursdays in your calendar and schedule your announcements accordingly. The deadline remains the prior Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Please submit online at www.wpc.org/communications. Early submissions gladly accepted and will be saved for the appropriate Weekly Word dates.
VBS Decorating Days (and Registration Form!)
Decorating days: Saturdays, July 14 and 21
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Westminster's Vacation Bible School (VBS) theme is "Rolling River Rampage: Experience the Ride of a Lifetime with God!" Plan to use all of your creative juices to help us create the great outdoors in Grace Hall. We could use donations, which we will return, of rafting equipment, camping gear, artificial Christmas trees, tarps, sticks, etc. This year's VBS runs from July 23 - 27. Register now for the best week of the summer! Click here for the two-page registration form. BOTH pages must be completed in order for your child/grandchild to participate in VBS. Please return both forms to the church at the same time. If you have questions, email Robin Rosser at [email protected].
Do Not Miss "The Insult"
Tuesday, July 17, 7:00 p.m. in Rodney Chapel
Our friends at Pacem in Terris will be showing the compelling film, The Insult. A minor incident between a Lebanese Christian and a Palestinian refugee turns into an explosive trial that ends up dividing the two communities. There will be a post-film discussion with Dr. Rob Abel. We hope you can join us. It will be shown on Tuesday, July 17, at 7:00 p.m. in Rodney Chapel.
4th Annual Summer Celebration at Franks Wine
Thursday, July 19, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
What is Greg's favorite beer? Here's your chance to find out! Join us for a two-hour wine and beer tasting at Franks Wine (1206 N. Union Street, Wilmington, DE 19806). The tastings are BYOG (bring your own glass!), and we'll have light snacks to enjoy. As an added bonus, there is a 10% discount on beer, wine, and spirits purchased during the event. Plus, Franks Wine will donate back 10% of total sales that evening to WPC! Cost: $15/person. Click here to register. Space is limited to 40 people. Questions? On Saturday, June 16, the Rev. Sudie Niesen Thompson served as a liturgist for the confession and assurance of forgiveness for the opening worship of the 223rd General Assembly in St. Louis, Missouri. She was selected for this because she grew up in a congregation in the Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy and now serves as a pastor in a Presbyterian congregation (Westminster). source

News to Note
Recent Bequest
A $250 bequest from the Estate of Frieda M. Ackley Tice was given in memory of David M. Ackley and Frieda M. Ackley Tice for the 2018 One Great Hour of Sharing offering. We give thanks for our long-time member, Frieda, and the gifts she bestowed on Westminster.
An Easy Way to Keep Your Contributions Current
Many members have signed up to provide monthly contributions automatically through our online giving option. It helps to keep their pledge current and provide the church with a steady and predictable income stream. You are able to start and stop it at any time and change the amounts. Consider signing up this summer; it's easy! Visit www.wpc.org and click the "Donate Now" button at top right corner. For questions, contact Colleen Falasco ( [email protected] or 302-654-5214 ext. 131).
Solar Power for Daughtry and Burton House
You may notice work being done on the roof of Daughtry House, visible from the parking lot. Westminster is having a contractor install solar panels on this southeast facing roof, as well as on the flat roofs of Daughtry and Burton Houses. When complete, these panels will generate 15.3 kW of power. Of course, every kilowatt we produce means a kilowatt that won't need to be generated using fossil fuels, which is a good thing for the environment and for the long term costs of these buildings. Look for more information once the system is up and running!
