Thursday Evening Adult Ed: Gnostic Gospels
Thursday, June 6, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
in Rodney Chapel
The Gnostic Gospels and the Gospel of Thomas with Alan Fox, University of Delaware Professor Philosophy and Religion. The "Gnostic" Gospels are a collection of non-canonical texts, which - like the canonical Gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John - are narratives testifying to the Messiah-ship of Jesus. We will consider the reasoning behind the early Church's decision to include the familiar four and exclude the rest. We will contextualize the texts by establishing the history and significance of Gnosticism as it existed before and after the rise of Christianity. Free admission; good will offering applied towards speaker honorarium. For more information and to register, visit
www.cil-de.org.

VBS is fast approaching! We have just a few open spots for adult teachers and teen helpers. If you would like to join us for a fun-filled week of Bible stories, arts and crafts, music, snacks, and games, we'd love to hear from you. Contact Robin Rosser at rlrosser@outlook.com. PLEASE NOTE: There will be just ONE decorating day on July 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Even if you cannot volunteer for the entire week, we would still appreciate your help transforming Grace Hall into a cosmic space station.

News to Note
Westminster Event Challenges the Community (with Video!)
On April 27, our sanctuary was the site of an event that promises to move our community forward in the cause of criminal justice reform. In their introductory remarks, Greg Jones and Delaware Coalition for Smart Justice campaign manager Erica Marshall made a compelling case for the moral, political and economic imperatives involved. Game Changer Xavier Broomer shared his personal experiences with the system. And keynote speaker Adam Foss electrified the crowd with his vision for a better justice system, challenging us: in 50 years, how will you respond when people ask "what did you do?" A YouTube video of the event is now available. It is well worth watching!
Calling for Reception Area Volunteers
Would you like to spend 2-3 hours a week (morning OR afternoon) at Westminster getting to know our amazing church staff - while they work? Enjoy the comings and goings of these dedicated people as you support them, especially Susan Alexander (Reception Area Supervisor) at the front desk. While Susan is at lunch or attending staff meetings, you'll answer phones, buzz in visitors, and help with small/necessary tasks. You do not need experience. You will receive all the training you need from friendly folks! If this volunteer opportunity sounds like the right match for you, please contact Susan (302-654-5214 ext. 100 or susanalexander@wpc.org) or Colleen Falasco ( cfalasco@wpc.org).
Congratulations to Alex Sprague
Westminster member Alex Sprague will be graduating from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary on Sunday, May 19, 2019. Alex is exploring employment opportunities in the Louisville, Kentucky area, as his fiancé will be starting a Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy program at Louisville in the fall. Westminster supported Alex financially during his three years in Seminary. At a Session Meeting on April 29, 2019 Elder Barbara Stratton shared a note from Alex thanking Session for its support. We are proud to see one of our own going into the ministry.
A Big Thank You from the Deacons!
For the last three years, the Deacons have held an annual Cookie Sale to raise money for the Chad Miller Youth Mission Fund. This year, 168 dozen cookies were baked and over $750 was raised to support our youth mission trip to Guatemala. Youth mission held a special place in Chad's heart. In May 2007, he came to Westminster as Associate Pastor of Mission and quickly became involved with our youth. In 2009, Chad was in a fatal kayaking accident. However, Chad lives on in our church family as we continue to support youth mission in his memory. Thank you to all who bought cookies!
