Congratulations to Sally Dessauer
Recipient of the Donna Corrington
Lifetime Achievement Award 2020
for Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Cincinnati.
Sally has been a very dedicated volunteer for IHN since it beginning in 1991 with only eight congregations, one of those being Westwood United Methodist Church.
Since 1996 Sally has served as the coordinator for Westwood United Methodist. This has included hours of scheduling volunteer coverage for each week of hosting. It has involved coordinating three meals a day for families, providing over night accommodations, emergency calls overnight, and coordination with the IHN staff. Most of all it was providing a loving, caring place for the guests to feel comfortable and accepted.
In Sally’s acceptance of this award she only credits the outstanding
support from the many people of our church and the four supporting
churches for their support of donations, time and prayers.
After twenty-nine years of service Sally continues to give many, many hours to see this program continue to help the increasing needs of the homeless of our community.
Congratulations Sally, and thank you for a job so well done with such
love and dedication for so many years.

Grow in your understanding of how
God can touch your life.
Read testimonies of members of your Church.
Jack Ensminger took on God's call to compile the testimony of many of our church family and friends. Asking them to share their stories of how God showed up.
Take on the challenge now to read these testimonies and discover how God moves in and through all of us.

You are stronger than you think because
God is nearer than you know.
When life feels depleted, does God care? I’m facing an onslaught of challenges with this pandemic and the isolation from my community, will God help? When life grows dark and stormy and I can't make ends meet, does God notice? I’m facing the fear of sickness and death, will God help me? The answer in the life-giving miracles in the Gospel of John is a resounding yes.
Open Hearts invites you to join us for a look at these miracles in Max Lucado's book, You Are Never Alone.
We will start this 6 week study @ 7 pm on Thursday, Oct. 22 via Zoom. Contact Gail Stewart for the link.

Parking Lot Prayer
Rain or shine we’ll have prayer from 5-6 pm this Sunday, October 18. If outside, please bring a lawn chair and your mask. If inside, we’ll meet socially distanced and with masks in the sanctuary.
A Daily Prayer Declaring Jesus' Revelation
Come, Jesus, You are my goal. I look to You as my pacesetter. May I lay
aside every weight and distraction that besets me and run once again after
You and You alone. Even If I start slowly, may I start with ever-increasing
stamina to know You, the life-giver? Amen (Hebrews 12:1-3)

One of the great resources that we have is Fatih @ Home.
This resource helps us as Grow in our faith as a family...
no matter what it looks like.
"Our faith is not just something we check in with on Sundays; our faith is how we live lives of meaning and purpose every day of the week, if we will learn to notice and respond to how God is moving.
But this awareness, like anything worthwhile, takes practice. Which is why a weekly discipleship practice of Reading, Reflecting, and Responding to scripture in the context of community is so important.
The devotions on this site have been written with this practice in mind. Use them with friends or family to help you deepen your experience of faith experience from Monday-Saturday."

October mission is Operation Christmas Child
– it’s simple to fill a box and the impact is huge.
Small gifts, toys, school supplies and hygiene items are all it takes to create the perfect gift to share God’s love around the world. Get an OCC box from church during office hours or Sunday morning in person worship. OR use your own shoebox, any size. Suggestions for filling boxes can be found at www.samaritanspurse.org/OCC or contact Amy or Dennis Morand (513-608-2269). The challenges of 2020 have not stopped this ministry because there is such a need for sharing the gospel one box at a time. Fill a box. Invite a friend or neighbor to join you. Our goal is 250 boxes. Our deadline is Sunday, November 1st. Turn in filled boxes to church office or during in person worship or at the pumpkin carving event on Sunday, October 25.

Prayer Team Prayer Corner
Wake me up Lord, so that the evil of racism
finds no home within me.
Keep watch over my heart Lord,
and remove from me any barriers to your grace,
that may oppress and offend my brothers and sisters.
Fill my spirit Lord, so that I may give
services of justice and peace.
Clear my mind Lord, and use it for your glory.
And finally, remind us Lord that you said,
"blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God."
Amen.
