Neighbors Helping Neighbors: Love in Action

Our new program, Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN), is ready for roll-out! This exciting joint effort between White Pony Express
and RecycleSmart creates a new platform for community service and food rescue – connecting volunteers with smaller food donations they can personally deliver in real-time.

This program was designed to expand WPE’s ability to pick up and deliver donations from local restaurants, caterers, and cafeterias. Based on a new law in California, SB 1383, these businesses are required to have an edible food collection program in place with a local organization (like WPE!) by 2024. The new regulations provide WPE with an important opportunity to help food producers and distributors across the county and to do so without putting further strain on our current facility...

White Pony Express Welcomes Merry Dempsey: Powerhouse and Change Leader!

White Pony Express (WPE) has hired a Chief Operations Officer and we couldn’t feel more pumped or privileged! Merry is passionate about our work and serving the community. She has extensive experience in strategy, corporate finance, recruiting, development, and management.

Merry’s collaborative spirit and energy will help WPE build a sturdy foundation in order to connect the abundance and the need. Together we welcome this new life chapter where we all help each other as one family.
Merry will focus on four of WPE’s key strategic objectives:

  1. Program development, including the launch of Neighbor Helping Neighbors.
  2. Financial management and accounting.
  3. Integrated data systems and improved technology.
  4. Model replication and organizational growth.
Love Knows and Does All
California's Chief Service Officer, Josh Fryday

On May 1st, White Pony Express (WPE) celebrated a major milestone: delivering 15 million pounds of fresh, nutritious food to neighbors in need across Contra Costa County. We celebrated by hosting a drive-thru giveaway that served over 400 families – with love! The event took place in Concord at Mount Diablo High School, which proved to be the perfect location for filling cars with free food, clothing, board games, sweets, and flowers; along with live music and ribbon dancing under balloon chandeliers! We also applauded WPE’s beloved 400+ volunteers who make the magic happen 364 days a year...
