With November's arrival, we welcome the fall season, lower humidity, cooler temperatures, and the Thanksgiving Day Holiday return. I always look at this time of year and think of gratitude followed by Christmas's giving season in December. I feel so grateful to be the General Manager of The Windermere Club! I am thankful to have the privilege of serving our fantastic membership every day. And, I am sincerely appreciative to all of our staff who have been incredible over this year for spontaneously adapting, creating, and implementing new protocols as we have moved through the many phases of Covid-19. You have all helped provide a safe, socially-distanced atmosphere where our members have been able to relax and enjoy life. What a gift!
Living and dealing with this pandemic for over six months, not knowing when it will be under control or a vaccine will be approved, do we have anything to be thankful or even grateful for? YES, of course, we do. We have a lot to be thankful for.
We are thankful for our members who have supported our Club and have stayed safe by following social distancing guidelines, wearing masks, and limiting their exposure outside of our grounds. We want and need you here, but remember, we need you here safe. We are thankful for our Leadership Staff for regularly meeting, reviewing, and adapting to the many challenges this pandemic has presented and making the difficult decisions necessary to keep our Club functioning throughout these unprecedented times.
Let us remember when we sit down for our Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends, be thankful for all that you have. Please do not dwell on what this virus has taken away but be grateful for what we have here at The Windermere Club.
We remain firm in our resolve to stay safe and come back stronger than ever when COVID-19 leaves us. We thank all of you for your support of our Club and your commitment to safety.
In closing, I cannot say how much the support of the membership means to us. You all continue to speak highly of TWC and serve as club ambassadors, helping us grow as we add more members to the club family. I am thankful for all of you.
I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and the Merriest of Holiday seasons.
Respectfully yours,
Fred W. Layman III
General Manager

Hello everyone,
I hope this finds you well and safe during these crazy times we are experiencing.
Besides COVID-19, the weather this year has made maintenance of the golf course very challenging. I feel like we have made small but quality strides toward giving you a better conditioned golf course.
We have purchased a high tech Eclipse (electric) greens mower so it has no hydraulic hoses that can blow on a green and kill grass. We have also updated the bunker rake and utility vehicles.
Please tell all of your friends about the improvements and get them out for a round of golf.
I look forward to seeing everyone out on the course in December and having a great 2021.
I wish all of you the happiest of holidays.

It’s been a fantastic fall at The Windermere Club with great weather and even better golf course conditions! The Windermere Club is being talked about all around town as having the best course design and best greens!
The Windermere golf staff plans to implement one Member golf event per month beginning in December. It will typically be on a Saturday with a shotgun start. The next one is scheduled for Saturday, December 5th, with the Holiday Golf Classic. It is a two person team event with a format called “A Tale of Two Nines”. Holes 1-9 will be a “Better Ball of Pair” format and holes 10-18 will be a “Two Person Captain’s Choice”. Call the Pro Shop at (803) 786-7888 to sign up or for additional details.
A full calendar of all Windermere Club golf events, including Member-Guest and Club Championship, will be included in the next newsletter.
In addition to the current golf staff of Tom Graber (PGA - Director of Golf) and Joe Beaman (Assistant Professional) we would like to introduce Will Huggins. Will will be starting as a part-time staff member during the winter months. He is an avid golfer and very personable. Will has previously been in restaurant management, managing up to 5 popular restaurants at a time in the Myrtle Beach area. He is a great “people person” and very customer service oriented. Please feel free to stop by the golf shop and welcome Will Huggins to the club!
Gift Certificates for golf merchandise, golf rounds and golf lessons are available in the Pro Shop if you are looking for last minute Holiday gifts.

TIP FROM THE PRO
COLD WEATHER GOLF
- Tis the season when the temperatures are falling. However there are some things that we can do that will keep the scores looking the same on the scorecard.
- Cold air is also heavy air. The golf ball will not fly as far in colder temperatures. With that said, push your ego aside and use one or even two extra clubs when approaching greens. Also consider that you are wearing more restrictive clothing which will curtail your clubhead speed.
- Don’t leave the golf balls in the garage at night. Store them at room temperature. Putting a cold golf ball into hot water before you play will not warm up the core of the ball. Remember, it takes 24 hours to warm up the core of a golf ball. Playing in cold air with a cold ball will reduce your carry yardage dramatically!
- Consider changing golf balls in the winter months. Using a softer compression ball will make up for some of the lost distance.
- Layer your upper body clothing. Two or three thin layers will keep you warm while allowing for more flexibility. Wear a hat or cap. Most of our body heat escapes through our head.
- Know that scores will most likely be a little higher in the winter months but KEEP PLAYING! Playing through the winter will keep your golf muscles in tone and you will find your groove much earlier in the spring.
We look forward to seeing you at the club all winter long!

JUST A REMINDER:
Just a reminder - it’s for your convenience to PLEASE make a starting time in advance if you wish to play. There are times that if you walk in without a starting time there may not be a time or a cart available.
Just a reminder – range balls are not included in the Anniversary Membership. They must be purchased prior to play. There is also a fee to walk the course for Anniversary Members.
Just a reminder – due to increased play, individual carts are not available on many days – especially weekend days. Please ride with someone in your twosome or foursome. Thank you!
Just a reminder – please leave range ball bags on the range after you have finished warming up or practicing. If you have mistakenly taken one or more home, please return it to the pro shop.
Just a reminder – Please fill divots with sand and repair your ball mark (and two others) on the greens!

Greetings tennis members!
I hope everyone is well and preparing for some quality family time as we enter the holiday season. As we all know, this has been an incredibly challenging year for all of us and I want to thank everyone for being vigilant and making reasonable adjustments as far as safety and precautions are concerned as it relates to COVID-19. I know we are all hoping for a vaccine sooner than later and I encourage everyone to continue to follow the basic guidelines and steps such as using hand sanitizer etc as we move hopefully soon towards a vaccine.
As you know there has been some recent substantial upgrades to the tennis facility grounds. The new hard courts look and play fantastic and the new lines and surface on the clay courts I am sure are appreciated by everyone! A big thank you to those that stepped up to sponsor a court and provide the club with brand new windscreens as well. My primary goal moving into 2021 is to continue to find revenue streams/sponsorships etc. to continue improving and upgrading the club grounds. As I write this, I am in the middle of trying to secure funding for two large projects that would be absolutely huge for the tennis center. It is way too early to even talk about yet but one of the two looks very promising. I will share hopefully good news in the near future. Keep your fingers crossed and wish me well! Additionally, I would like to get back to some sort of schedule with club socials. I know this has been severely lacking this past year and I will make sure we have some this coming year as well as likely adding another tournament or two to the schedule.
I have said it before and I truly mean that this club is very special with very special members that clearly love it, as do I. This is now the longest I have ever been at a club and I want to thank you for your support and I wish all of you very happy and safe holidays and look forward to another year and some great, fun tennis. Below I will address a few “FAQ’s” concerning the tennis center and program. Please always reach out to me with any questions or concerns you might have. Finally, everyone please reach out to people you may know that might want to join! It is vital for the future of Windermere that we grow the membership numbers. Anyone that you know that has been thinking about, please let me know and I will reach out to them immediately and try and get them in for a tour, perhaps even a short lesson etc. Thank you!
.
All my best,
