Speaker Paul Greenberg was introduced by his
friend and neighbor PP Chris Gaynor. Paul is a
graduate of the University of Wisconsin. He also
received a Master of Arts in History from the
University of Colorado and, his juris doctor from the
University of Wisconsin. He lives in Pacific Palisades with wife Debbie and three Children, Robin, Brian and daughter Jamie.
Paul has been in private practice since 1977 in the field of employment law representing employees.
Paul does not bill hourly. He is paid a % of each
settlement. Debbie, Paul’s wife is the office manager
and will screen all calls before setting an appointment
for an interview consultation.
Not all grievances are litigable. Unfair treatment may
not be illegal. However, when discrimination is added to the case it may be worth looking into further.
Paul litigates multiple causes of action such as
1. Age discrimination
2. Sex and gender discrimination
3. Wage discrimination
4. Harassment
5. Fake claim actions when an employee reports
his employer is not operating legally.
Paul recommends employers would benefit with a warm and sincere approach in regard to termination of employees. Defaming a soon to be fired employee in ear shot of other employees can boomerang and give the departed employee an opportunity to strike back. Therefore, best not to give a reason for the termination, or give a generic one at the most.
Many cases go to mediation to avoid the ridiculous cost of trying a case. Mediators represent both sides and their sole function is getting a settlement. Insurance companies play a major role in the outcome of the mediation or trial. Retaliation and emotion can end you up in a legal dispute. Best to walk away and save yourself the unpleasantries of a legal confrontation.
Paul has been practicing for over 40 years and highly recommends treating your employees honestly and fairly. Otherwise, you may be stepping into his legal arena.
Shout outs to PP Gordon Fell as today’s Greeter, President Steve Day for leading the pledge, Sherod Hansen for the “Thought of the Day”, PP Ed Gauld for leading us in singing “Four Leaf Clover” and PP Chris Gaynor for writing today’s Windmill.
President Steve told us that December 14th is MORE GOOD TODAY DAY, which the members had good fun with matching members to the words by their last name. He also did a recap of Recent projects WV Rotarians participated in including the Annual Christmas Shopping Spree with the children from the Westwood Transitional Village and this year, included the District Governor, Makiko! The past week also saw involvement in Beautification of the Kuruvungna Village on the University High School Campus and, the Music Mends Minds Holiday Concert.
