Windmill for January 18th, 2024

By PP Jim Crane

President Elect Benjamin Fisher presided over the meeting because President Steve was out ill.

Today’s speaker, District 5280 Grants Co Chair, Lee Stacy was introduced by Past President Gordon Fell and shared about the Rotary Foundation.

The Rotary Foundation was started in 1917 and has $1B in assets today. There are 7 areas of focus, and all grants will include at least one of the seven. This year our district has 52 grants from the Foundation. WVRC’s grant is with Brentwood Schools who are building computers for use by Veterans at the West LA Campus.

The Foundation is split into 3 parts including Polio Plus, the Annual Fund, and the Endowment Fund. In the case of the Endowment Fund only the interest is spent and none of the original contributions. The Annual Fund includes district grants, vocational scholarship grants and global grants. When you donate funds to the Foundation you can specify which of the funds you want the money to go to.

Lee Stacy is an expert on this topic and gave us a lot of information. He has also held this position at District for quite some time.  We will miss working with him next year as he has accepted the position of District Treasurer! Good luck next year, Lee and, thank you for your service.

Next on the agenda was the presentation of multiple Paul Harris Pins. They were made to WV Rotarians Lynn Rogo, PH+5, Gail Smith, PH+2 and, the Club’s newest Paul Harris member, Nanci Cohen! Congratulations ladies!

Shout outs to David Stover for reciting the 4-Way Test, Janet Schwartz for leading the pledge, Nanci Cohen for greeting, PP Diane Good for the “Thought of the Day” and PP Ed Gauld for leading everyone in singing the Air Force song.

Visiting Rotarians included May Stacy (Lee’s wife) and, UCLA Rotaractor Jason.
