Guest Speaker
Debbie Haliday first introduced by President Benjamin and then by Bill Roen is a dear friend of WVRC’s AG Shirin
In addition to her role as executive director of the WEST Project, Debbie is an Enneagram teacher, for individuals and in group and team settings, a consultant for teams, and a licensed spiritual director. She enjoys helping coaches and teams get to know each other and connect more deeply, growing the culture that releases them to perform at their highest potential, and problem solving when those things are not happening. Debbie has a heart for community service and outreach opportunities. She especially enjoys leading individuals and groups to serve underprivileged children. Sport is a universal language and can be used to communicate love and encouragement anywhere in the world.
Haliday worked as Program Director for UCLA women’s basketball from 2013-2019. Her duties included running the WBB office, mentoring student athletes, overseeing social media, camps and clinics, community service, and assisting with team building. Prior to serving at UCLA, she coached girls’ high school basketball for 25 years and was a K-12 athletic director. From 1996-2007 she served as the Regional Camp Director for Southern California FCA. Haliday was also the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Biola University from 1990-1995.
As a student athlete at UCLA, Debbie competed on both the women’s basketball and softball teams, earning National Championships in both sports in 1978. She was an All-Regional second baseman and All-Conference guard. She was also mentored by John Wooden while at UCLA and counts Coach Cori Close as one of her dear friends.
The WEST Project (Walk Every Season Together) is a non-profit that was founded in 2020 and is made up of former coaches and athletes who are consultants who specialize in teaching the enneagram leadership method for improved communication and problem solving for teams, staff and/or an athletic department. The organization also hosts youth clinics (they partner with the Collins & Katz YMCA for example) in the United States and Internationally working side by side with collegiate athletes (some who get paid) to teach leadership skills and how to work together to achieve common goals to underprivileged children.
It was wonderful to have Debbie back in the building and at UCLA where her organization works with the UCLA women’s basketball team whose players assist at some of these youth clinics here and abroad.
Great presentation, thank you Debbie!!
