Windmill for March 28, 2024

By PP Diane Good

Prez Steve opened the meeting on time welcoming everyone to the first official Hybrid meeting using a device known as the OWL, to include those that could not join us in person today. He then proceeded to tell us it is National Respect Your Cat Day (because if you do not, they will let you know it) and to recite the Four Way Test. Jim Crane and Janet Schwartz were the greeters today, Sean McMillan led the pledge, and John O’Keefe gave the Thought of the Day on the 10 simple secrets of happy people. The number 10 secret, smile!! PP Ed Gauld then led the group in singing “Easter Parade” while wearing a live flowered bonnet! Our only visitor today courtesy of the Owl, was President Steve’s better half, Marsha Day.

President Steve continued by celebrating all March birthdays (Mike Newman, Terry R. White, and Chris Gaynor – all PP’s), wedding anniversaries mentioning the O’Keefe’s celebrating 55 years and the Crane’s, 49 years and, Rotary anniversaries with Terry M. White leading the charge with 43 years of Service Above Self. Congratulations everyone!!

Last week's Pageant of the Arts took place at University High School. We witnessed some incredibly talented students and look forward to their future success! Thank you to all the WVRC members who judged the awesome competition. Friday, Music Mends Minds in partnership with the WVRC hosted the Band of Heroes on the WLA VA campus.  It was a beautiful concert on a gorgeous day with good participation. We look forward to future concerts.

President Steve then introduced today’s entertainment, PP Tom Barron who proceeded to impress us with jokes, puns, famous/favorite quotes and, an entertainment quiz for the group without prizes (what is the point??) It was a fun and entertaining lunch, and we greatly appreciate PP Tom stepping up to the mic after the scheduled speaker had to cancel.

President Steve then ended the meeting with two quotes about cats, “Time spent with cats is never wasted” by Ben Franklin and, “What greater gift than the love of a cat” by Charles Dickens. It seems prior to becoming a dog lover, Prez Steve favored cats!! He is such a good guy.
