President Benjamin Fisher dressed in a Dodger Uniform shirt for Halloween and celebrating the Dodger’s world series win presided over the in person/Zoom meeting at Hillel UCLA. He began by welcoming the zooming in people and indicating the 2023/2024 Rotary theme this year is “Magic of Rotary”.
President Benjamin asked for examples from Rotarians on using the 4-way test in their daily life and, new member Sam Botbol offered an example of “is it the truth”.
President Benjamin thanked Past President Tom Barron for greeting and Christine Clayburg for leading the pledge of allegiance.
Past President Diane Good shared the thought for the day which talked about the history of Halloween.
Past President Ed Gault led the singing of “Happy Days are Here Again”.
Rotaract member Anastasia Raykova shared the information on the recent district humanitarian trip to Maui following the damage caused by wildfires last year. She visited different villages and schools to participate in restoration projects which included locations where people lost their homes in the fires. She was deeply saddened by the amount of damage but, honored by how happy and receptive the residence were to the Rotarians' assistance.
Today’s speaker was Dr Jennifer Noble Senior librarian at the Westwood Branch of the public library. The Friends of Westwood Library and Los Angeles Musical Salon have plans for two free admission and free parking concerts at the library including Viva Classical Broadway! Saturday November 9th at 3 pm and The Pepper Moons and, Sunday December 8th at 2:30 pm. The library offers online access to the New York Times, Washington Post and other newspapers. Jennifer shared the Westwood Village Rotary Club is a platinum supporter of the library. The library has programs for all ages, kids, teens, adult literacy, and adults. Library hours are 10 am to 8 pm Monday and Wednesday, noon to 8 pm Tuesday and Thursday, and 9:30 am to 5:30 pm Fridays and Saturdays. The library offers 90 minutes of free parking. The library also has an IT specialist that comes in one – two days a week and will assist you in any IT problems you are having.
