Time to Chillax
The phrase Dog Days of Summer describes the most oppressive period of summer. And darn, it's hot out! Dog days conjure up heat waves and tall glasses of lemonade. But why are they called the “dog days”?

It all starts in the sky...with the annual appearance of the brightest star, Sirius, which is part of the constellation Canis Major (Big Dog). This occurs in mid August, hence the term "dog days".

We admit this is a "Pup Piece". We are ok with that, hope you are too. Enjoy a little lightness on these sultry days. These pups show us the way.

Ingredients
  • 2 oz vodka or gin
  • 3 oz fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
  • crushed ice
  • grapefruit wedges

Preparation
  • Fill cocktail glass with crushed ice.
  • Pour in vodka (or gin) & grapefruit juice.
  • Give it a good mix.
  • Garnish with grapefruit wedges.
SALTY DOG

Ingredients
  • coarse sea salt
  • 2 oz vodka or gin
  • 3 oz fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
  • crushed ice
  • grapefruit wedges

Preparation
  • Dip glasses in water or rub glass edge with grapefruit slice. Dip in sea salt.
  • Fill cocktail glass with crushed ice.
  • Pour in vodka (or gin) & grapefruit juice.
  • Give it a good mix.
  • Garnish with grapefruit wedges.
