Rachel Joyce is one of my favorite authors. She ALWAYS delivers a great story! Her latest is the story of outcast Margery Benson, who, after abruptly quitting her job, decides to fulfill her lifelong ambition to find and document the Golden Beetle, known to inhabit the mountainous region of New Caledonia. Edith Pretty provides an unlikely partner and assistant to the abrasive Margery. Both are harboring painful secrets, both ultimately come to understand each other through shared experiences. The novel also provides a startling look at post-WWII London, the plights of it citizens making their way back up after devastation from the war, and the effects of the war on the men who fought bravely. I so enjoyed this story, another one that had me googling facts - on beetles, New Caledonia, this list goes on.

The backstory includes the daunting challenges of poverty and being a woman in the man’s world of country music. Author Sarah Smarsh skillfully weaves her own background story with Dolly’s, giving credence to the stories of many women struggling in rural, hard-luck obscurity. An absorbing read!

A fun book for the holiday season.
On Christmas Eve, stuck at work, Rico sells a lottery ticket that ends up being the big ticket winner. She is determined to find the ticket holder and turn her bad luck around.
This was such a fun, worthwhile read for fans of The Hate U Give and Dear Martin who also like hopeful endings.
