By now the food coma you were in from your Thanksgiving feast has passed. Welcome back to work!

This year is nearly over, and it’s time to welcome 2022.

If you’re at all like me, you were probably looking forward to 2021 right about this time last year… and getting back to normal. Well, as we all know, things didn’t exactly go as planned.

I’m a big believer in learning from each experience. So, here’s what I learned from 2021:

  • Systems, such as supply chains, are not resistant to failures.
  • One small hiccup can disrupt an entire industry (think plastic resins).
  • Having no back-up plan leads to being stuck.
  • Literally. Do you have a generator in case the power goes out?
  • Planning with partners goes a long way toward making things work the way they’re supposed to.
  • This could include getting the team together to develop a continuity process so that the lack of materials doesn’t hold you back — or how to find substitutes?

I’m also a believer in being grateful for what we do have. Here’s some thoughts from our team of what went right in 2021:

  • Receiving help from a trusted resource to navigate new material lead times and corporate policies.
  • Working with a great team that works hard to do it right.
  • Re-opening our Service Center and hosting lunch & learns, which meant meeting people face to face again.
  • Being able to pivot to the delivery of commercial audio/paging systems.
  • Getting people’s attention with our pre-fabrication services.

I truly believe that 2022 can be a fantastic year for all of us if we continue to learn from past experiences, and appreciate all that we have in this world already.

Be well in the new year!
