Revisit the Top Five Westchase District Stories of 2019

2019 was a great year for Westchase District. We commissioned new murals that were painted throughout the area. New restaurants and hotels opened. and area businesses were recognized in our Best of Westchase contest. ICYMI, here is a review of the top five stories from the year:

1. Westchase District broke ground on its largest-ever capital improvement project: a $20 million reconstruction of Walnut Bend Lane. The roadway is being completely rebuilt between Westpark Drive and Westheimer Road. Underground utility improvements and above ground amenity upgrades (bus shelters, lighting, sidewalks) will benefit anyone who lives or works on Walnut Bend, plus everyone who uses the street to get to their final destination. (September)

2. Two significant office leases indicate strength in Westchase District's office market. leased 25,000 square feet in Parkway Property's CityWestPlace campus. The California-based  digital payments company opened its first satellite office in Houston by working out of TechSpace's coworking space in the same office complex.  Meanwhile,
Honeywell signed a 114,000 square foot lease at 2103  CityWest Blvd (also in the CityWestPlace campus) and will move its 750 employees around the corner from its current Westchase District location. (February/May)

3. The District upgraded the eight emergency call boxes located along its trail system with 4G technology. Four more emergency call boxes will be installed in 2020.

4. New amenities have been added at Trailside Park. This quarter-acre urban infill park is part of a 750-foot trail just north of Richmond Avenue that connects HCC Campus Trail with Hayes Road. The park features a ZipKrooz playground zip line, picnic table, water fountain, additional seating and interactive art. Parking for Trailside park is available on Hayes Road. (April)

5.  Westchase District sponsored its periodic  Best of Westchase  contest in the spring, giving area residents and employees of local businesses the opportunity to vote on their favorites in 27 categories. More than 1,000 votes were cast in our online contest and the winners were celebrated at a happy hour award ceremony.  (May)

We have big plans for 2020, so keep reading!
