OLLI Offers Unique Learning Opportunities in Fun Settings
Recently, one of OLLI's educational opportunities made the local news. Attendees of OLLI's
Annual
Member Social took a step (or ride!) back in time with a theme centered around the 1910s. The event included a capella group, "The Bridges of Harmony" and an old-fashioned ice cream social. One of our OLLI instructors, T. Parkinson, even brought his newly restored 1912 Model T Ford to the event! So, while wearing festive Spring hats, participants were regaled with this Model T's fascinating story. A lucky few even got to take a short joyride in the rare car. One of the attendees of the event was Dan Scanlan, reporter from First Coast magazine. He interviewed T. Parkinson about his classic automobile for an article in his publication.

LEARN Jacksonville at Area YMCAs!
Recently, a “
Fall Kick-Off
” was held at Winston, Brooks and Ponte Vedra YMCA locations to create excitement and promote various upcoming classes offered through LEARN Jacksonville. Tables were set up with photography, mosaics, props and posters. Local vendor, "All Wet Sports", even loaned a kayak for the event! Drawings were held to give away gift certificates for free classes at the area YMCAs and the 100th YMCA member to register for a YMCA class will win a $100.00 gift certificate.
This partnership between the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast and the University of North Florida Division of Continuing Education provides local residents the opportunity to access LEARN Jacksonville—the non-credit, personal enrichment offerings at UNF—through their neighborhood YMCAs.
From writing classes to kayaking lessons, six local Y branches, including Arlington, Brooks, Flagler, Ponte Vedra,
Williams
and Winston Family YMCAs, all offer classes.

Hello Continuing Education Supporters!
Our hearts go out to each and every one of you who may have been impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. We heard that some of you had personal property losses, as well as have family impacted by the various hurricanes. Some of you may still be emotionally reeling from the disruption caused by storms. In any case, the Division of Continuing Education Team extends its hopes for a speedy recovery of personal property, health, wellness and certainty regarding your family’s fates in more devastated areas of our country. We value you not only as students and clients but also as members of humanity.
The staff had minimal damage to their homes but are scurrying to reschedule classes and renew operations of LEARN Jacksonville, OLLI, Test Prep and Professional Development programs. We think that you will experience few disruptions in all services we provide to you. We commit to you that you will find your classes and learning opportunities more engaging, relevant and vibrant than before the storm. As
Friedrich Nietzsche
said, “That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.” We are here to strengthen Jacksonville’s Lifelong Learning community. Cheers to taking the continuing education community by storm!
Every best wish,
Edythe Abdullah
Dean, UNF Division of Continuing Education
