She discusses how the OLLI program has evolved since becoming the director including an ever-growing membership currently at 1500 members.
Eight Programs at UNFCE
Now Eligible for VA-Funding

Exciting news! UNF’s Department of Continuing Education has expanded its course offerings for veterans. Just recently, the Bureau of State Approving for Veterans’ Training approved two new courses eligible for VA-funding for military families: New Manager Essentials Certificate and Instructional Systems Design Certificate.

Participants in the The New Manager Essentials program will learn the best practices for developing and executing the three necessary skills of every effective manager. During the Instructional Systems Design program, students will learn all aspects of developing curriculum, from conducting an analysis of the job, to evaluating how well a course meets the needs of the trainees.

Eligible programs at UNFCE now include:
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate
• Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certificate
• Logistics & Supply Chain Management
• Leadership Development Certificate
• Project Management Certificate
• Certified Financial Planner Certificate
• NEW! Instructional Systems Design Certificate
• NEW! New Manager Essentials Certificate

OLLI Collaborates with the Ann and David Hicks Honors College

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), for those aged 50 and better, recently met with students at UNF’s Fine Arts Center. Eight members of OLLI spoke to 200 Honors freshmen to help them gain new perspectives on their college education and future careers.

These OLLI career veterans recounted real-life stories of how twists and turns affected their career paths. They imparted knowledge they wished they had possessed at the beginning of their careers – how planning ahead and taking advantage of unexpected opportunities shaped their careers.

The Honors freshmen who attended this event walked away with valuable insights from end-of-career retirees that will hopefully help prepare them for both successful careers and productive lives.

Holy Cow ! 2017 is almost over.

Time is flying but our enthusiasm for learning is not. We’re ecstatic about this year’s new courses and certificate programs designed just for you. We’ve done our best to listen to your feedback, suggestions, and watch the trends in the business community. They have led us to bigger, better and more instructional ideas. We hope this newsletter and other communications have highlighted our new look and commitment to you and your lifelong learning.

As we near the end of the year, I especially want to thank the Program Directors of the Division. Because of their hard work and rapport with many of you, we have become the career and lifelong learning instructional choice in northeast Florida. Thanks Valerie Murphy, program director of Learn Jacksonville. Thank you Jessica Murray, program director for Professional Development. Last but certainly not least, thanks Jeanette Toohey, program director for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). BTW, if you haven’t seen the article about Jeanette’s exceptional work, check inside this newsletter.

I have a phenomenal team of directors, customer care advisors, and program assistants as well as a stellar new Marketing Coordinator, Terri Bailey. No one could do more than this team!

From all of us to you, we wish you a holiday season beyond your wildest dreams and many years of lifelong learning (with us). We are your ever-vigilant elves, hoping to delight you with the gift of Lifelong Learning.

Every best wish for you and yours,

Edythe Abdullah, JD
