“Owls Together: Community, Friendship, and Kindness”

The Owl Mission

The Park Ridge School District is committed to educating and empowering all students to think critically and creatively to express their full potential. We cultivate a community of lifelong learners and nurture all students to be kind, ethical, and responsible citizens, as well as independent, productive members of an increasingly complex and interconnected world. As a district, we embrace individuality and value cultural diversity, equity, and mutual respect.

The Owl Vision

We are dedicated to creating a culture and climate of collaboration and acceptance, where all members of the district are encouraged to challenge themselves and learn from their experiences. We recognize the importance of interconnection and encourage development of multiple intelligences and divergent thinkers. We strive to support our students as they grow academically, socially, physically, and emotionally, and recognize that this process is enhanced through collaboration within the larger community. The Park Ridge School District strives to advocate for the individual needs and goals of every member of the school community, by fostering an environment where growth and well-being are paramount.

Dear School Community Member:

Hello to all! We are officially in the home stretch of the school year. The calendar for May and June is filled with events that showcase all the hard work completed by our students and staff.

On May 6th, the BOE held its annual Budget Hearing and passed a budget that included a 3.25% tax levy increase. Thank you to all of the students, staff, parents and community members who attended the hearing. As previously stated, the 2025-26 school budget maintains all current programs, services and staffing levels.

Last week we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week in all of our schools. I am sure you will agree that we have an incredible faculty and staff working with your children. They are a highly dedicated group who create a wonderful learning environment for the students entrusted to their care. Please join me in thanking them!

In closing, I want to thank you for helping to make the PRSD a great place to learn and grow. Enjoy the extended Memorial Day Weekend!

PRHS Summer Instrumental Music Program

Dear Parents:

This summer, the Park Ridge Music Department will be sponsoring its 38th annual Summer Instrumental Music Program. This program is open to all students entering grades 3-12. It takes place from June 30 to July 25. Students are given a 30-60 minute private or small group lesson on the band instrument of their choice every day. This is a great opportunity as it is a highly immersive experience that helps students new to an instrument learn the fundamentals of that instrument, as well as helps current students maintain their skills through the summer. You can read more about the program here. If you are interested in this program for your child(ren), please fill out the registration form on the Park Ridge Community Pass and contact me ASAP. The deadline for registering for the Summer Instrumental Music Program is Friday, May 30, 2025.

Additionally, the Park Ridge Marching Band is looking for more members during the 2025-2026 season! We are a very tight-knit varsity team and look to have a lot of fun while making a lot of music. Marching band is such an important part of the Park Ridge Jr./Sr. High School culture. We play in football games, pep rallies, travel to competitions and festivals around Bergen County, and march in various parades in the area - including NYC parades, like the St. Patrick’s Day Parade! Our student leaders are very supportive of new members and help them grow their marching skills and musicianship day by day. Even if you don’t play an instrument, I encourage you to come join our color guard! I am very excited about our show for next season!  Our show for next season is a Guardians of the Galaxy theme with music inspired by the Guardians of the Galaxy rollercoaster in Disney World: SeptemberOne Way or Another, and Conga! Did you know that by joining the marching band, band members are also eligible for a scholarship? Not only that, colleges find students in marching band very desirable due to the important life skills and lessons learned. If you are interested in joining the marching band, please read the information found here and complete the registration form by Friday, May 30, 2025.

If you ever have any questions, please feel free to contact me at johndiomede@parkridge.k12.nj.us or by phone at (201) 573-6000 extension 5931. You can also reach out to our other color guard instructor, Ms. Monique Nyonly (moniquenyonly@parkridge.k12.nj.us), or the Park Ridge Marching Band Boosters (prmbboosters@gmail.com). I wish you all the best and hope to hear from you soon!

Sincerely,

John Diomede

New HS Graduation Requirement - Class of 2025 through 2027

For PRHS graduating classes of 2025 through 2027, each graduating high school senior is required by law, as part of New Jersey’s new graduation requirement P.L. 2023, c.295, to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application (NJAFAA) in order to receive a diploma.

The FAFSA gives students access to the largest source of financial aid to pay for college or vocational school. Through completing the FAFSA, students can be considered for federal financial aid, including Pell grants, work-study programs, and loans. In addition, many states and colleges, as well as some private financial aid providers, use FAFSA information to determine students’ eligibility for aid.

The FAFSA is an opportunity to have access to the resources that are needed to consider and enter postsecondary education – whether it be 2-year, 4-year, or technical school. In addition, students who are NJ residents but do not meet the requirements for FAFSA may consider the NJAFAA as an option. The NJAFAA enables students to receive state financial assistance to support their post-secondary college and career goals.

If you do not qualify for the FAFSA/the NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application or you wish to request that your student be waived from this graduation requirement, parents/guardians should complete the FAFSA/NJAFAA Waiver Form.   The form must be submitted to the Guidance Office by May 1st of your student’s senior year.

FAFSA completion benefits ALL students:

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Federal Student Aid provides more than $120 billion in grants, loans, and work-study funds each year to help pay for college or career school. Visit StudentAid.gov today to learn how to pay for your higher education. The FAFSA must be completed to apply for grants, loans, and work-study. All financial information is kept confidential. Many students are eligible to receive financial aid from the federal government to help pay for college or career school. Age, race, or field of study will not affect eligibility for federal student aid.

Many college/university websites and fafsa.gov provide a financial aid estimator to estimate how much financial assistance students may receive. Financial need increases with college cost and some colleges can cost more than $65,000 a year. Many of these colleges, state agencies, and scholarship foundations require the FAFSA to award scholarships and grants to middle- and upper-middle-class students attending expensive schools. The most generous private colleges, for example, award need-based aid to some students from families earning more than $200,000 a year. FAFSA is a prerequisite for Direct Unsubsidized Loans, Grad PLUS Loans, and Parent PLUS. These loans are available without regard to demonstrated financial need and have lower interest rates than private loans.

NJAFAA may be an option for some students:

Complete the NJAFAA application if you are not a United States citizen or eligible noncitizen and meet all of the following criteria:

  • Attended a New Jersey high school for at least three (3) years
  • Graduated from a New Jersey high school or received the equivalent of a high school diploma in New Jersey
  • Registered for Selective Service (male students only)
  • Are able to file an affidavit stating that you have filed an application to legalize your immigration status or will file an application as soon as you are eligible to do so
