A Prayer for St. Patrick's Day
Though historians have many different theories about the details of St. Patrick’s life, what I remember most about him is a prayer attributed to him. Whether we choose to wear green or not on St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow, may we spend a few moments with the words of a prayer that Christians across the world have shared and offered for centuries.
I arise today
Through the strength of heaven;
Light of the sun,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of the wind,
Depth of the sea,
Stability of the earth,
Firmness of the rock.
I arise today
Through God’s strength to pilot me;
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God’s shield to protect me,
God’s hosts to save me
Afar and anear,
Alone or in a multitude.
Christ shield me today
Against wounding
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me.
I arise today
Through the mighty strength
Of the Lord of creation.

Update on Ukrainian Missionaries
If you contributed to the Zubtsov family and their cause, and would like to receive regular email updates from them, please contact Kim Yonce in the church office. They have been in Germany for a couple of weeks now and are waiting on the American Embassy to find out if their children will be issued visas. They are now able to have church via Zoom. They continue to raise funds for Ukrainian soldiers and refugees. Please continue to pray for Bogdan, Zhenia, and their three children. We have closed our donation window for these particular missionaries. However, if you would like to continue to financially support the relief effort in Ukraine, you may make contributions payable to VBC with "Ukraine BGAV Response" noted in the memo. Please see the below announcement regarding BGAV Ukrainian support.

Easter Offering
This year's Easter Offering will be equally split between the following two ministries:
-
VBC Blessing Box - The Blessing Box is the large, red, plastic box located in the edge of the Breezeway. Several times per week, the box is stocked with nonperishable food items and various toiletries for folks to come by and take what they need from the box. This ministry operates independently of the Food Pantry and does not share any Food Pantry funding. It is an alternative for individuals who cannot get to the Food Pantry during its designated hours, or who might need items in between Food Pantry visits. This local ministry has become important in meeting the needs of our community.
-
BGAV Ukrainian Relief - The BGAV is collecting funds, which are being channeled through the European Baptist Federation, to meet the needs of Ukrainians through established partners. The BGAV has asked for both financial and prayer support for these efforts. Please click here for a video explaining how your gifts help. This national relief effort shares the love of Christ to a hurting, war-torn world.

Dear Vinton Baptist Church and the Sunday School classes that my mother, "Ginnie" Hall, attended,
My family and I wish to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the beautiful flowers you sent in memory of my dear mother, "Ginnie" Hall, who recently passed away. Vinton Baptist Church was an integral part of my mother's life for many decades, even after she could no longer drive to Vinton to attend services, including her beloved Sunday School class, each week. When I collected my mother's mail at Brandon Oaks near the end of her life, there were several cards from her Sunday School class. This meant so much to her, and to me, because it shows the love that resonated from her church family. God bless you for your love and thoughtfulness during this very difficult period for my family and me. Regards,
Tim Hall, London, UK (and Renee, Alex, Alivia, & Abby)
