This Sunday @ VBC
We would love to have you join us for Sunday School this week, which starts at 9:15 AM. Please click here for our Sunday School brochure. All young adults (18 - 28ish) are invited to join us at RND Coffee at 9:00 AM for our small group; this includes high school seniors who have turned 18.
We hope you can join us Sunday morning at 10:30 AM for morning worship as we continue our Lenten study. This week's sermon is "Tow Truck Man," and the scripture is Hebrews 9:11-14. Because it is the first Sunday of April, we will observe the Lord's Supper. We will pass communion plates for the first time since COVID began (see details below). If you can't join us in the sanctuary for worship, please do so through livestream at www.vintonbaptistchurch.org or through our Facebook page.
If you signed up for our Pancake Brunch Fundraiser for Passport Kids Camp, your meal(s) will be ready in the kitchen when morning worship ends. THANK YOU for supporting our Preteens who are preparing to head to camp this summer!
There will also be a Deacons Meeting at 12 PM, Chancel Choir Rehearsal at 6 PM, and all our usual Sunday afternoon/evening activities in between!

Observing Communion
It has been five years since the COVID pandemic began, and five years that we have been observing the Lord's Supper using prepackaged elements. At the request of our Deacons, this Sunday we will begin passing communion trays again. Communion elements will be hygienically prepared by our Communion Committee using juice cups that have a built-in pocket for bread. Therefore, communion trays will only need to be passed once, and there will be no other hands touching your bread. Both the bread and juice will be contained in a single cup that you can pick up from the tray as it is passed. Trays will also include pre-packaged communion elements for those who prefer to use them.
We are scheduled to participate in communion on several occasions in April due to the observance of Holy Week/Easter. While we will use special cups and pass the trays this Sunday, we will continue to use pre-packaged elements on other occasions in order to maximize our time together and minimize the demands on our Communion Committee and Deacons.

Annie Armstrong Offering for North American Missions
We are getting closer and closer to our Annie Armstrong Easter Offering church goal of $2,450, which supports missionary efforts across the United States and Canada. We are currently about $350 short. Will you help us meet our goal? There are special envelopes in your box of envelopes and also in the pew pockets in the sanctuary. You may also give online and designate your gift for Annie Armstrong. Thank you to everyone who has already supported this effort!

Bible Reading Plan
Congratulations! You made it through Leviticus! Now, welcome to Numbers.
A Theological Introduction to the Old Testament (Birch, Brueggemann, Fretheim, & Petersen) characterizes Numbers as a bridge between Leviticus and Deuteronomy, in which the Israelites who were rescued from Egypt (including Miriam, Aaron, and Moses) all die during the wanderings in the wilderness, and the subsequent generation is prepared by God to enter the Promised Land. The only "original" Israelites from Egypt that actually enter the Promised Land are Caleb and Joshua. Following is their general description of this book:
The book of Numbers, named for its census lists, is the most complex of the Pentateuchal books. Various types of literature are represented - lists, itineraries, various statutes, ritual and priestly prescriptions, poetic oracles, wilderness stories, and even a well-known benediction (6:22-27). Laws are integrated into each stage of the story; they provide for an ongoing ordering of the community as it meets new situations. The positive opening and closing sections of the book enclose a sharply negative picture.
Moreover, some Numbers texts border on the bizarre, with talking donkeys, curses from a non-Israelite diviner turned into blessings that have messianic implications, the earth swallowing up people, bronze snakes with healing powers, an almond-producing rod, an execution for picking up sticks on the sabbath, Miriam turning leprous, repulsive instructions for discerning a wife's fidelity, and a judgment on Moses for very obscure reasons. (...) To complicate these matters, God is often depicted in ways that challenge traditional understandings ....
All of this is what we have to look forward to as we start Numbers. I hope you'll stick with us and share your thoughts as we work our way through this book together.
