This Sunday @ VBC

This Sunday in Morning Worship Travis will begin his Thanksgiving series on cultivating gratitude. His sermon is, "A Posture," and the scripture is Psalm 100. We are also looking forward to performances by our adult handbell choir, as well as organ and trumpet duets. If you are unable to attend worship in person, please watch the livestream at www.vintonbaptistchurch.org or through our Facebook page.

We'd love to see you at Sunday School, as well, at 9:15 AM (Young Adults at 9 AM at RND). Click here for our Sunday School brochure if you don't already have a class.

There will be a Deacons Meeting at 11:45 AM in the church library.

Youth are scheduled to return from Fall Retreat at noon.

Art from the Heart and Mission Kids will take place from 4:00 until 5:30 PM in the gym for all elementary aged students. See Jodi with questions.

Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes are due this Sunday, November 9th. It's not too late to pick up an empty shoebox (or two) at the Missions Tables, along with an OCC brochure, and pack your box for a child in need. Can't pack an entire box? Then you can donate items to go in the boxes: small balls, dolls, stuffed animals, cars, trucks, school supplies, and other small toys for girls and boys. (We cannot accept toothpaste, liquids, or soap this year.) See Darlene McCaskill with any questions. Thank you!

Youth Fall Retreat

Please be in prayer for our youth and chaperones who are headed to Fall Retreat this Friday. The first bus leaves at 5 PM. They are scheduled to return at noon on Sunday.

Gloria Sink Memorial Coat Drive

The JOY Senior Council would like to thank the congregation of VBC for your very generous donations of coats to support the Gloria Sink Memorial Coat Drive. Because of your caring hearts and generosity, we were able to support requests from 7 Vinton area schools and provide coats for 128 students. Once again, Vinton Baptist has been the hands and feet of Christ in our community.

November JOY Senior Luncheon

Shannon Abell will present Updates to Medicare at our November 25th luncheon. Lunch will begin at noon. As usual, he will have lots of information and lots of goodies. Lunch will be prepared by Ashley (our former church cook) and will consist of soup, sandwich, water, and dessert. The cost is $12. Please sign up, pay, and make your soup/sandwich selections at the JOY Senior table by Friday, November 21st. If you want to come only for the program, you are always welcome to pack your own lunch or just show up around 12:30 PM.

ATTN: Christmas Vendors

This year's Christmas Craft & Vendor Fair will be Sunday, December 7th, 12:30 - 4:00 PM! Click here to find out all the details and to sign up as a vendor ($45/space). Offering for World Hunger

We need your help with the World Hunger offering. You will find in your box of envelopes a yellow envelope designated for World Hunger. Please help us reach our church goal of $1,700. We're just over 1/3 of the way to our goal. Please use the envelope or simply make your payment to Vinton Baptist and notate "World Hunger." Thank you!

Thanksgiving Offering

In your box of envelopes, you will find an envelope dated November 27th and marked for "Thanksgiving Offering." This year's offering will go to The Least of These Ministries (TLOT), which is a faith-based local organization that assists the homeless in our area. TLOT offers lockers, washers and dryers, shower facilities, a warming bus on cold nights, and assistance with housing, among other services. Have you ever wondered how to help a homeless person on the street corner, not knowing whether your funds are going to be used in a God-honoring way? Your contribution to TLOT ensures that the homeless in our area our assisted in appropriate ways through your giving. You can find out more by going to https://www.theleastoftheseministry.org/. If you do not have a box of envelopes, simply make your payment to VBC with a memo notating "Thanksgiving Offering." Thank you!

Kroger Community Rewards

Do you shop at Kroger? Do you have a Kroger Shopper's Card? Then you can arrange to have a portion of your Kroger purchases donated to Vinton Baptist Church at no extra cost to you. Create or log into your Kroger account, and select Vinton Baptist Church as the beneficiary of your purchases. Just follow the directions located here. If you need help, call the church office at 540-343-7685.

Last quarter, we received a total donation of $435.00, which was up from the first quarter donation this year. The more folks who participate, the higher that number can go. It doesn't cost you anything to participate. Thanks for your support!

Christian sympathy is extended to Betty Jo & Luke Overstreet, Jodi & Bobby Estienne, Colson, and Carter in the death of Betty Jo's mother, Jean McGuire, October 27th; and to Robert Mickey and family in the death of his wife, Sybil Mickey, October 30th.

Bible Reading Plan

Today I'm going to refer you to The Bible Project for an overview of where we've already come in Luke and a more detailed focus on Luke 9-19. Click here for the short (4-1/2 minute) video. (You can find other incredibly helpful sources on The Bible Project's website, as well.) In this video, the journey of Jesus to Jerusalem is discussed. Remember that we talked earlier about how Luke-Acts should actually be considered one long book? While Luke details the spread of Jesus' message from outlying areas to Jerusalem, where Jesus is crucified and resurrected, Acts then details the spread of that same message from Jerusalem out to the rest of the world after Jesus' resurrection. Hopefully these themes will become more apparent as we continue to read.
