Mr. Matt Hernandez
In addition to singing in the Arts Department production of The Wiz, Mr. Hernandez also led the children's music ministry at his church!
Who is Mr. Hernandez?
A decade and a half ago, I began a career in Neuroscience Research at Stony Brook University, where I discovered my passion for academic scientific endeavor. This passion, coupled with deeply caring about disparities that are experienced by young urban students, led me to become a public high school teacher. I began my teaching Biology in 2007 at Abraham Lincoln High School and closed my Brooklyn teaching experience as a Biology / AP Biology teacher, and Grade Director, graduating one of the finest groups of 160 students Bushwick has ever known at Williamsburg Charter High School in 2016. That spring I was recruited by New Leaders for their Aspiring Principal's program in Memphis, TN. I'm humbled to be right where I want to be at the T- STEM high school emphasizing the importance and significance of keeping students at the center.
Teacher Spotlight

Ms. Dawson
As an educational investor/guider in the lives of children with special needs, I bring to the East High Family 24 years of dedication and flexibility. As a graduate of LeMoyne-Owen College and Overton High School, I will contribute the academic knowledge, skills and talents necessary to illustrate my three beneficial elements of teaching: (1) the teacher acting as a guide, (2) allowing the child's natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect for all things and all people. As a single parent of two Alcorn State University students, DeKayla and DeKeyda, education has always played an important role in my household. I will continue to cultivate the lives of my biological and educational children.

Thank you Ms. Tappan for being a tremendous part of the success that Ms. Dawson has achieved with her students!
