Summer Adventures & Uncertain Economy
|
|
How much rain are we going to get? What are interest rates going to do? These are two questions I’ve heard often at the bank over the summer. It seems weathercasters and economists rival one another with their frequency in being wrong with their predictions. I don’t envy their jobs, though.
By the time you read this, the Federal Reserve will have decided its interest rate move at its end of July meeting. Most economists and others who follow are predicting they will lower interest rates. If that is the case, it will be the first decrease by the Fed in over a decade, after seeing a number of increases in rates over the past several years. If you do anything long enough you see ups and downs as well as extremes. Although we can’t predict interest rates, we can help you evaluate loan and deposit alternatives that may be best for you. In fact rates on mortgage loans have already dropped. It might be a good time to see if re-financing would make sense for you or if a home purchase is now more affordable. Give one of our lenders a call to find out.
I do know it’s been a busy time doing summer things at Wolf River Community Bank. Some of the traditional summer events we’ve been a part of include golf outings, outdoor concerts, events in the parks, fireworks and our very own customer appreciation picnic. I hope many of you were able to join us.
I also hope that all who were impacted by the severe storms in our area the weekend of July 20th are well along on the road to getting things back to normal.
Let us all hope that mother nature allows us some respite from the extremes we’ve had on the wet, very hot, and stormy weather as we finish out the summer and head towards fall.
Until next time,

Capital One Data Breach: Tips to Combat Identity Theft
|
|
On July 19, 2019, Capital One Financial Corporation announced that there was unauthorized access by an outside individual who obtained personal information of people who had applied for its credit card products and to Capital One credit card customers. The perpetrator has since been arrested, though this event affected an estimated 100 million individuals in the U.S. and approximately 6 million in Canada.
The Capital One data breach affects millions of consumers, and Wolf River Community Bank stands ready to assist our customers. It is the banks in Wisconsin and across the nation that shield their customers from the financial harm caused by data breaches. It is as simple as this: when a breach occurs, banks often bear the brunt of the costs so their customers won’t have to.
