"...there are three to four hundred high school kids who are homeless at any one time...[Children First Foster Family Agency has] helped about 235 kids at about $200 per child. These are kids that maybe have one set of underwear or one set of shoes..."
Mike Logan, CEO of
Children First FFA
, recently
spoke
at one of our Meet and Mingle events about the $10,000 seed fund The Women's Fund granted in 2017 for its project The Solutions for Youth Fund. The grant money provides basic personal and scholastic needs for high school girls who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Thanks to the grant, Children First FFA was initially able to serve 78 Shasta County female high school students. Today, Children First FFA has served over 230 high school students in our community.
The direct impact of the Solutions for Youth Fund includes assistance with day-to-day items such as clothes, underwear, feminine hygiene products, makeup, bus passes, and school supplies. Grant funds were also utilized for circumstantial needs, including tires for a student's car, sponsoring multiple girls to cheer camps, purchasing prom dresses, helping secure a birth certificate, and funding a Medical Career Workshop.
"...we've done what [The Women's Fund has] done, we provided kids with hope, inspiration, and a way to keep going, that somebody out there cares for them..."
