Hess's Headlines
Dear Church,
What would 2018 look like if we lived as closely as possible to the New Testament Church? What if we loved Christ, devoured His Word, and had a passion to reach all people with the Gospel regardless of the cost? What if we gathered for prayer like the 120 in Acts chapter one? What would happen if we devoted ourselves to the Word, to fellowship, and to prayer like in Acts chapter two? What if we made the most of every opportunity to share the Gospel like in Acts 3? What could we do if we shared our resources open-handedly to help those in our fellowship in need like in Acts four? What if we rejoiced when we were rejected because of Christ like the apostles in Acts five? What would Woodmont look like if we had an abundance of men filled with wisdom and the Holy Spirit like Acts chapter six? If some of our members were killed for their love of Christ like Stephen in Acts seven, would the people of Woodmont rejoice or run in fear? If persecution strikes Florence, Alabama in 2018, would we scatter and faithfully share the Gospel like Acts eight, or would we hide in fear? What would happen if the "chief of sinners" of the Shoals area entered our church, persecuted our church, but was radically converted like Saul in Acts chapter nine? What if we sent people on missions, celebrated what God was doing around the world, and celebrated when other churches did well in our area? What if we really had one focus in 2018: the glory of God!
My prayer for 2018 is that Woodmont would embrace the challenge of being a New Testament Church; not so we can say we accomplished anything, but to look back in 2019 and know He's worthy of it! By the Lord's grace and the power of the Holy Spirit, I'm looking forward to 2018, His glory, and His mission. I covet your prayers this year for our church, my family, and myself as we grow together into what God is calling us to be and do! Much love.
In Christ,
Chad

Jail Ministry
Thanks to everyone who helped out with the Goodie bags for the inmates at the Lauderdale County Detention Center. It was a great team effort!
The Youth Ministry was in charge of packing the 300 bags. In addition to a book of Bible promises, each bag contained: socks, hygiene items, candy and a card made by children in our Children's Ministry. The items were generously donated by several Bible Study Connections classes as well as some individuals. After the final bag was packed, a prayer was offered up that they would be a blessing and an encouragement to each recipient.
The College Ministry baked sugar cookies with sprinkles for the inmates and 12 gallons of milk were provided by the Singles Ministry so the inmates could have milk with their cookies on Christmas Eve. Each person who works at the jail also received a book of Bible Promises as well as lots of candy. The bags were delivered by some great helpers and everyone left having a little more of the spirit of Christmas in their heart.
During the month of December, members of the Jail Ministry have had the privilege of having Bible Study with inmates at the Detention Center. We are thankful to have the opportunity to share Christ love with those who are incarcerated.

Singles' Ministry
Thank you to everyone for the prayers, rides, cards, food, texts messages and special words of encouragement during my recovery. It has been a challenge but it has been made a lot easier by the love shown to me and Danny. It is truly a blessing to be a part of a church family like Woodmont.

Children's Ministry
I would not wish my 2017 on anyone, but I serve a big God. A God that does not give us diseases, but He uses them and His people to give Glory to Him. I know that He was with me from the beginning of time, and He was there when I received the news. It breaks His heart to think that cancer would cause me to doubt His love for me.
Do you know how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love really is? I am not going to say it is always easy to praise Him in the storm. I do know that God is always there. I just need to trust Him.
Who knows what 2018 will bring? I do know this, "MY GOD IS BIGGER. "
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
1 John 3:1 NIV.
