Special Olympics Thanks MCL Marines
|
I want to thank you for arranging to have Marines from the Worcester Marine Corps League participate in our Awards Ceremonies on Sunday as part of our Winter Games tournament in Greater Worcester.
I was at Auburn Lanes and I’d like to acknowledge Marine Bernie LaPierre and another Marine who attended our morning Awards session. Bernie presented at our morning session and stayed a few hours to present again at our afternoon Awards session (and there were tough driving conditions on Sunday).
I’ve attached a photo which I think shows how much athletes, coaches and parents enjoy having folks in uniform join our Awards presentations.
I was not at other venues, but I’m sure several of them were covered by the Worcester Marine Corps League and that the Marines were well received.
Thanks again, and someone will be in touch next year.

I
t is that time of year again, when the snow has melted, the days are getting longer and the docks are being placed in the water at our Marine Corps League.
Thanks to all of you that participated in the Special Olympics awards ceremonies. The kids absolutely loved seeing us in our uniforms.
Memorial Day Weekend will be coming up in May and as always we would like to see good showing. The dates are listed below.

s you may or may not be aware, MCL National no longer sends out annual dues reminders. Dues are due by September 1st every year. If you are not current with the MCL, please come in and see bartenders or mail check for $30 to the attention of Paymaster or Steven Cheney, Sr. Please include your Membership number.

I grew up in Boston in a very, very, very Marine town. So back in my neighborhood in Boston, a working-class neighborhood, when you got your draft notice, you went down, and you took your draft physical. And then, if you passed it, you joined the Marine Corps.

Scholarship Purpose,
Eligibility, and Requirements
|
Purpose
To grant scholarships to qualified applicants who are pursuing full time undergraduate or technical training at a recognized institution.
Eligible Sponsors
Members in good standing of Marine Corps League Worcester Detachment 144.
Sponsors must be active and attend a minimum of four monthly meetings of the Worcester Detachment 144 in scholarship award year.
Eligible Recipients
Member, spouses, children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren of the sponsor.
The sponsor’s stepchildren are also eligible.
Requirements
Applications will only be dispensed to sponsors attending a Worcester Detachment 144 monthly meeting.
Completed applications must be returned by September 1st.
If selected you must provide proof of enrollment (Verification Form) from you or your school and returned by November 15th.
Awards
$200 annually for a maximum of four years.
Years need not be consecutive years.
Checks are usually mailed in mid December.
