Commandant's Message
Marines and Associates,

This past month in October was the Election and Installation of our Detachment officers. I would like to thank the members for putting their trust into me by electing me to Commandant. I also want to thank our new Detachment officers for stepping up back into their positions or taking on new positions. We have a great slate of officers for the upcoming year and our agenda is full of tasks to accomplish. As your Commandant my main priorities for the year are as follows:
  1. Retain and Recruit new members
  2. Foster the principles and purpose of the League with all Marine and Associate Members
  3. Outreach to our City and local Neighborhood through various charitable acts
  4. Continue to provide great quarters and activities for our members, Marine and Associate alike; to exemplify the fraternity and fellowship of our organization
  5. Build our Dock Wall

Looking forward to November, please join us for our Celebration of the 244 th Birthday of our Corps. We are having our Detachment Ball on November 9 th at 1800, tickets are $30.00 and our guest speaker is the Chief of Police of Webster, Michael Shaw who is also a Marine member. Marine Daldo has been doing an outstanding job planning our Birthday Ball, please attend. On November 10 th at 1400 we are having our informal Birthday Celebration downstairs in the Lounge, with a cake cutting and hors’ d'oeuvres . On Veterans day we are marching in the City of Worcester’s parade and are looking for max participation, please get with Marines Duffy and Manna for details. Also we have various bands and activities for the month of November so please check our website, facebook page, and the Word for all details.
In closing, we have a big year ahead of us and I look forward to working with all of you to continue to make our Detachment the best in the Country. It takes all of our hard work and for us to volunteer to make all of this happen and I couldn’t be prouder to lead us forward into the New Year. Thank you for your trust and commitment.

Remembering The Loss in Beirut 36 Years Ago
Beirut bombing survivor who was under rubble for more than two hours tells his story, remembers Marines who died
Story by By:  Philip Athey  Marine Corps Times
Across the Marine Corps on Wednesday, memorials and ceremonies were being held remember the 36th anniversary of the 1983 bombing of the Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, Lebanon.
The bombing was the largest single-day loss of life in the Marine Corps since the battle of Iwo Jima in Japan during World War II.
Chip Shields was a corporal with a communications platoon for the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, nearing the end of his rotation in Lebanon on Oct. 23, 1983.
He survived that day, but 220 Marines, 18 sailors and three soldiers did not.
