4th Annual Worcester Marine Corps League Golf Tournament
Where:  Holden Hills Country Club

    Attention Marines, family and friends. We will be holding the 4th annual golf tournament to help support the Worcester Marine Corps League located at 181 Lake Ave. Worcester, MA. This should prove to be another fun event with a chance to connect/reconnect with Marines of all ages. Immediately following the golf, we will have a reception/prize dinner consisting of Roasted Turkey Breast and Oven Roasted Top Round of Beef Au Jus, with Garlic Butter Green Beans, Roasted Potatoes, Choice of Pasta, Salad and Rolls and Butter.

    For those interested in golfing please complete the attached registration form. We have sponsorship opportunities as well. Deadline for registration and s ponsorship submissions is Friday June 14th, 2019.

O ur outside activities are in full swing. Melissa and her staff are doing a fantastic job. Gina has booked an incredible lineup of musical talent. Please forward this email to your friends. Also make sure you "Like" our Facebook page for the most current events at our Club.

We are looking for volunteers for the annual Summer Bash. Please also consider being a part of our Color Guard. In this very important Detail, you will represent our brothers and sisters of the past, our Post #144 and the United States Marine Corps. It is both exciting and rewarding. Please contact Paul Manna if you are interested.

Project New Hope will be running retreats for PTSD Veterans and Caregivers. Please see ProjectNewHopeMa.org

Marine vet punches shark to save daughter from attack
A shark attacked a Marine vet’s daughter. He punched it in the face til it stopped

A Marine veteran saved his daughter from a life-threatening shark attack in North Carolina by punching the shark five times on the nose until it released the 17-year-old girl from its deadly grip, according to  local reports .
Paige Winters had deep lacerations and bites in her leg, pelvis and hands when admitted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville just after the 12:20 p.m. attack on Fort Macon Beach, the  hospital reported . Paige lost several fingers and her left leg had to be amputated above the knee, but her injuries could have been fatal if not for her father.

A s you may or may not be aware, MCL National no longer sends out annual dues reminders. Dues are due by September 1st every year. If you are not current with the MCL, please come in and see bartenders or mail check for $30 to the attention of Paymaster or Steven Cheney, Sr. Please include your Membership number.

Scholarship Purpose,
Eligibility, and Requirements
Purpose
To grant scholarships to qualified applicants who are pursuing full time undergraduate or technical training at a recognized institution.

Eligible Sponsors
Members in good standing of Marine Corps League Worcester Detachment 144.
Sponsors must be active and attend a minimum of four monthly meetings of the Worcester Detachment 144 in scholarship award year.

Eligible Recipients
Member, spouses, children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren of the sponsor.
The sponsor’s stepchildren are also eligible. 

Requirements
Applications will only be dispensed to sponsors attending a Worcester Detachment 144 monthly meeting.
Completed applications must be returned by September 1st.
If selected you must provide proof of enrollment (Verification Form) from you or your school and returned by November 15th.

Awards
$200 annually for a maximum of four years.
Years need not be consecutive years.
Checks are usually mailed in mid December.
