  MCL May News 2018
The young people I work with every day and serve the nation in the armed forces in general, and the Marine Corps in particular, have broken the mold and stepped out as men and women of character who are making their own way in life while protecting ours.

Commandants Message
Marines and Associates,

H appy Independence day. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far. We have lots of bands coming up this month plus as always our keystone Summer bash on July 14th. We can't pull this off without the help of all our volunteers. We will have a list of your assignments. We are also looking for volunteers to bring dishes of sides in the sign up for that is posted outside the managers office in the bar.

We had a good turnout at our Annual Golf Outing Fundraiser. Thank you Phil Forde and all the organizers for a job well done. Congratulations to Don Springer's foursome for winning the tournament. I heard that one of the winners donated his winnings back to the club a very nice gesture and much appreciated.
The boats are in the water and everyone is having a good time come on down and enjoy your club. Pitch is still going on every Monday night we are trying to get a corn hole tournament on Thursdays, and of course every Friday we have karaoke trying to talk one of the DJ's to put it on the outside stage.

Are Marines attacking Russia?
R ussia just can’t let it go that  Norway recently decided  to invite several hundred more Marines to the region for cold-weather training.
Last week, the Russian Embassy in Norway  warned of consequences  and on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova claimed the Corps’ presence in the Arctic country may, in fact, be an attack.
Norway recently agreed to  boost the number of Marines  in the country from 330 to 700 and opened a second training area closer to the Russian border in the Troms region.

From Marine fighter pilot to Baseball Hall oF Fame
A n already tense situation became worse when an explosion rocked the undercarriage as the plane approached the airstrip. The stubby fighter plane made a wheels-up "belly" landing, skidding along the tarmac with sparks flying for almost a mile before coming to a stop. The nose promptly burst into flames that threatened the cockpit. The trapped aviator blew off the canopy, struggled out of the plane and limped away, hitting the ground in a less-than-perfect baseball slide.
The plane was a total wreck, but the fortunate pilot suffered only minor scrapes. Later, the airmen at Suwon learned they had witnessed the dramatic escape of the most famous flying leatherneck in Korea; that lucky pilot was none other than Ted Williams, a star professional baseball player who was serving as a Marine reservist.

Millions more vets to be able to shop at exchanges online
Honorably discharged veterans could be able to shop online at military exchange websites as early as Veterans Day, barring any objections from Congress.
The change in Defense Department policy would open up online exchange shopping privileges to about 18 million more people. It won’t apply to shopping at brick-and-mortar exchange stores.
