Docks Install and Spring Cleaning

Volunteers needed to install the docks and clean the outside grounds.

We will start at 9am.

Help Feed Those in Need

April 22nd

L et's work together to give back to our friends and the community by "cooking a meal with friends." Volunteers are needed to donate main dishes, salads, dressings, side dishes, fruit salads, and desserts. The meals will be prepped and cooked at your home. Sunday April 22nd, Rob Colbert will collect the food at the MCL. Rachel's Table will pickup the meals and deliver to a local shelter.

Commandants Message

I hope to see many of you on Tuesday April 10th, for a joint Marine and Associates meeting.

We will be building new docks this Sunday, April 8th, and will be putting them in the lake on Sunday April; 22nd. We hope this will bring the warm spring weather we are supposed to have this time of year.

We will presenting a sword at the honor Marine grad at Holy Cross on next Friday the 13th.

I would also like to thank those Marines who handed out the awards to the Special Olympics athletes.

We just got here."

R ushing into the breach, the Marines encountered exhausted French soldiers heading in the other direction. French officers told the Marines they, too, should turn around. The Marines dismissed the idea. “Retreat, hell,” one Marine is alleged to have said. “We just got here.”...

Acts of extraordinary heroism were commonplace. "Come on, you sons of bitches, do you want to live forever?" 1st Sgt. Dan Daly famously yelled to his attacking Marines as he urged them into German lines. The lines would come to epitomize Marine Corps espirit for generations to come....

“The only thing that drove those Marines through those woods in the face of such resistance as they met was their individual, elemental guts, plus the hardening of the training through which they had gone,” wrote Lt. Col. Frederick May Wise, the commander of 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines.

Scholarship Purpose,

Eligibility, and Requirements

Purpose

To grant scholarships to qualified applicants who are pursuing full time undergraduate or technical training at a recognized institution.

Eligible Sponsors

Members in good standing of Marine Corps League Worcester Detachment 144.

Sponsors must be active and attend a minimum of four monthly meetings of the Worcester Detachment 144 in scholarship award year.

Eligible Recipients

Member, spouses, children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren of the sponsor.

The sponsor’s stepchildren are also eligible.

Requirements

Applications will only be dispensed to sponsors attending a Worcester Detachment 144 monthly meeting.

Completed applications must be returned by September 1st.

If selected you must provide proof of enrollment (Verification Form) from you or your school and returned by November 15th.

Awards

$200 annually for a maximum of four years.

Years need not be consecutive years.

Checks are usually mailed in mid December.

Millions more vets to be able to shop at exchanges online

Honorably discharged veterans could be able to shop online at military exchange websites as early as Veterans Day, barring any objections from Congress.

The change in Defense Department policy would open up online exchange shopping privileges to about 18 million more people. It won’t apply to shopping at brick-and-mortar exchange stores.
