Friends,
Welcome back! Life has returned to the Boulevard with our students, reinvigorated by two weeks of well-deserved rest. As we all return to the routine of our lives, we no doubt find ourselves preoccupied with daily tasks.
But, if we do not focus and purposefully reflect on the world around us, work, school, and so many other responsibilities can blind us to what is most important. Though we are weeks removed from the holidays, the work of Christmas has just begun. It is work we rejoiced in doing during Advent, and strive to do all year.
"When the carols have been stilled,
When the star-topped tree is taken down,
When family and friends are gone home,
When we are back to our schedules
The work of Christmas begins:
To welcome the refugee,
To heal a broken planet,
To feed the hungry,
To build bridges of trust, not walls of fear,
To share our gifts,
To seek justice and peace for all people,
To bring Christ’s light to the world."
- by Michael Dougherty, a variation on Howard Thurman’s ‘When the Song of the Angels is Stilled’

Boston: Game Changers
Panel at EMK Institute
|
|
Yesterday, I was honored to serve on a panel of leaders from
Bill Brett’s new photographic collection,
Boston: Game Changers at The Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate.
The book celebrates Bostonians who are affecting positive change throughout the city including Boston Police Commissioner William G. Gross, George Montilio, owner of Montilio's Baking Company, and Dr. James J. O'Connell, President of the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program.
It is a true privilege to be counted among these leaders in our city! I am constantly in awe of the great good our BC High community strives toward throughout the Commonwealth, country, and world. Thank you for being my partner in mission - this recognition is just as much yours as it is mine.

Sponsorship Review is a Success!
|
|
Rev. Joe Parkes, SJ, Provincial Assistant for Secondary and Pre-Secondary Education for the Maryland and USA Northeast Province visited us today to sign a six-year sustaining agreement with
Board Chair Kelly Mason Verrochi P’15.
After careful review and consideration from the visiting committee earlier this year, Rev. Parkes lauded the tremendous work and care that the BC High community put into our Sponsorship Review. He noted that the Jesuit identity of our school is alive and vibrant! Several faculty and staff members joined us for the presentation and signing of our new agreement.
We look forward to continuing an amazing partnership with the Province in the years to come.

Join us for the 22nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Service!
|
|
On Friday, we will honor the life and legacy of
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.! For twenty-two years we have gathered as a community to celebrate his work, and revisit his vision for a fair and just society for all. Members of our Black and Latino Student Union, under the direction of
Mr. John Mark and moderators
Mr. Herby Saintil '10 and
Mrs. Lizzy Corsetti are hard at work composing another inspiring service for the entire community.
In the words of our
Director of Equity and Inclusion, Mrs. Ruth Evee P'18, '22: "Students have chosen to highlight past and present notables, and the state of today’s inclusion in various public sectors. They will also highlight our beautiful diversity through language, culture, and ethnicity; not only at BC High, but nationally. They hope to emphasize the importance of not accepting, but embracing our differences and understanding the importance of collective voices. Our speaker,
Nyle Fort, is a minister, activist, and scholar, who has an impressive resume and deep passion for social justice among all pillars of diversity."
