At the 24th Annual McKim Lecture, presented on March 12, 2025, the ICAA was honored to welcome Michael Imber, President of Michael G. Imber Architects, as distinguished speaker.
The Art of the Architect celebrates the role that drawing and watercolor painting play in architecture. Architectural drawing as we know it dates from the Renaissance, but with the arrival of computer design programs this ancient art—formed of pen, pencil, and brushstrokes on paper—is sometimes regarded as obsolete. In his lecture Michael Imber demonstrates what a vital contribution the architect can still make at every stage of an architectural project.
Michael’s sketches allow him to visualize his environment more clearly, and they provide an immediate visual language with which he can communicate with his team, craftsmen, and clients resulting in authentic and timeless architecture connecting to the landscape.

The ICAA, INTBAU, and The King's Foundation are pleased to continue their collaboration with The Architecture of Place: In Conversation with..., a series of interviews featuring three architects and scholars from different backgrounds and points of view: John Smylie, Tiffany Abernathy, and Dr. Patricia Canelas.
In this iteration of the series, Tiffany Abernathy interviews Dr. Patricia Canelas about her scholarship and design perspectives.
Patricia Canelas is Course Director and a Lecturer for the Master's in Sustainable Urban Development at the University of Oxford, and a Fellow of Kellogg College. Previously Patricia has held academic positions at the University College London and University of Reading in the UK, and at Escola Superior de Actividades Imobiliárias and Universidade Católica in Portugal. Prior to her academic roles, Patricia worked as an architect and urban planner and continues to work in policy making and analysis at local and national levels in Portugal and the UK.
She holds a PhD in Planning from the Bartlett, UCL, UK (2017) a Master’s in Architecture from University of California, Berkeley, US (2008), a postgraduate degree in Sustainable Urban Planning and Design from Universidade Católica (2006) and a 5-year degree in Architecture from Universidade Lusíada, Portugal (2001).

On Monday, May 12th, 2025, the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) welcomed guests to celebrate the lifetime achievements of the winners of the 44th Annual Arthur Ross Awards. The ceremony, held for the first time at Cipriani 42nd Street, drew a record number of 550 attendees and raised nearly $1 million, which will support the ICAA’s educational programs, including continuing education courses, university workshops, architectural intensives, and more. Honored during the ceremony were Hugh Petter (Architecture), Brockschmidt & Coleman (Interior Design), Hank Silver (Artisanship & Craftsmanship), Craig Bergmann Landscape Design (Landscape), the New York Landmarks Conservancy (Stewardship), and Clive Aslet (Board of Directors Honor).

In 2023, the ICAA was honored to invite Clive Aslet, now a 2025 Arthur Ross Award recipient, to deliver a lecture coinciding with the re-publication of the long-out-of-print Lutyens Memorial Volumes, which was filmed on location in London. Here, Clive provides a thorough exploration of Edwin Lutyens' longstanding and fruitful relationship with the publication Country Life, and with its founder Edward Hudson, who was also a patron of the architect.
Clive Aslet is an award-winning architectural historian and journalist, acknowledged as a leading authority on Britain and its way of life. He has published around twenty non-fiction titles, including The Last Country Houses and The American Country House. Clive was editor of the magazine Country Life for 13 years and continues to contribute to newspapers and magazines, as well as broadcasting on radio and television. In 2025, he received the Board of Directors Honor at the Arthur Ross Awards.

On February 13, 2025, the ICAA was pleased to partner with the Richard Hampton Jenrette Foundation for a conversation with Annabelle Selldorf, principal of Selldorf Architects, and Gary R. Hilderbrand, principal of Reed Hilderbrand Landscape Architects, about their work at the historic Dumbarton Oaks estate. Annabelle and Gary discuss their collaborative work on the renovation of the historic greenhouse designed by Beatrix Farrand and McKim, Mead & White in 1925, the new propagation greenhouse and academic building, and the interdependent relationship of landscape, architecture, and art. The event was moderated by Benjamin Prosky, President of the Richard Hampton Jenrette Foundation.
Gary Hilderbrand is principal and founder of Reed Hilderbrand Landscape Architects and is the Peter Louis Hornbeck Professor in Practice and Chair of the Department of Landscape Architecture, Harvard Graduate School of Design.
Annabelle Selldorf is the Principal of Selldorf Architects, which she founded in 1988. Ms. Selldorf is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and serves on the Board of the Architectural League of New York, the World Monuments Fund, the Chinati Foundation, and the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College. Ms. Selldorf is the recipient of the 2016 Medal of Honor from the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter. She is a frequent lecturer and juror and has taught at Harvard and Syracuse University.

In this iteration of the series, John Smylie interviews Tiffany Abernathy about her professional work, design background, and scholarship.
Tiffany Abernathy is an architect and educator, has served as Director of US Projects at John Simpson Architects since 2014, and runs her own multi-disciplinary design consultancy, Forms Qua Objects. Her professional experience ranges from artist in residence in the Bahamas to involvement in large-scale urban design projects, campus masterplans, and landmark buildings in the UK and abroad. In 2005, she received the inaugural Rieger-Graham Prize from the ICAA and completed her Affiliated Rome Prize Fellowship the following year.
Tiffany has worked on 35+ major projects for John Simpson Architects and coordinated three publications on the firm over the past twenty years. She is an AIA member and RIBA Chartered Member, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, the Society of Fellows at the American Academy in Rome, and the INTBAU College of Traditional Practitioners.
Tiffany is currently collaborating on two independent ‘regenerative culture’ initiatives involving education and the nature of transatlantic cities—specifically the exchange and achievements in the US and Europe —as well as an interdisciplinary research lab incorporating documentation and design (R+D).
