ARTICLES & VIDEOS: NEW THIS ISSUE

The highly esteemed firm of Cullman & Kravis is renowned for its ability to fashion modern, cohesive, richly layered homes rooted in tradition and the respect for function and decoration. Recently celebrating their 40th anniversary, their decades of experience help them create rooms from the finest classical foundations, then infuse bold, stylish, and modish elements, mixing exquisite antiques with contemporary art to create truly dynamic spaces conceived to stand the test of time.

In this lecture, founder Ellie Cullman shares some of the firm’s most significant work to date and discusses how design has changed throughout her illustrious career. From a historic house overlooking the Long Island Sound to a contemporary beach house in the Hamptons, and a modern minimalist Palm Beach waterfront estate, Ellie discusses the firm's approach to each, from the big picture to the smallest detail.

In 2023, the ICAA was proud to present the Second Annual Michael Lykoudis Lecture: The Shared Building Traditions of the World, featuring Marieanne Khoury-Vogt, Co-Principal with Erik Vogt of Arthur Ross Award-winning firm Khoury Vogt Architects. Her lecture, Style & Substance: Designing a New Urbanist Town in the 21st Century, originally open to ICAA Members only during its live stream, is now available to watch online in its entirety.

Marieanne is primarily known for her work as an architect and urban designer with the town of Alys Beach, Florida. The practice, currently based in Alys Beach, FL., engages projects of a variety of scales, programs, and locales. Each is linked by a common purpose: to contribute to, and elaborate a worthwhile and memorable public realm. This is pursued through a firm grounding in local architectural traditions as well as the deployment and transformation of durable building types.

ARTICLES & VIDEOS: PREVIOUS ISSUE

For four weeks in June and July, the ICAA's headquarters in New York City welcomes twenty students and professionals from across the country for the Summer Studio in Classical Architecture. The Summer Studio incorporates lectures, field drawing, site visits, hand drafting, and watercolor rendering in an intensive program that instructs attendees in the principles and applications of classical architecture, and culminates in a design project for a new classical building.

In interviews, participants described how the program opened their eyes to classical architecture, and gave them a new appreciation of timeless design in the built environment.
