Volume III, March 2021
The World of Joni Mitchell
Dear Friends

One year ago, we launched the release of Eternal Dance, staged Indiana Jazz Girls Day and celebrated with an 8-piece all star group at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. We left for an extended tour and returned a week later to our respective homes. During a year of uncertainty, separation, and limited resources, creating music was an important place of refuge and expression. I am happy to share some of the results when we take the stage at the newly remodeled Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis on Friday, March 19 with a program centered around Joni Mitchell's music in new arrangements. Friend and vocalist extraordinaire Janiece Jaffe made me aware of the depth and current meaning of Joni's words last summer and we decided to reframe her quintessential message. We'll be joined by an all-star cast of musicians and hope you can share this very special celebration of Women's History Month with us - follow this link to reserve tickets. The safest way is to go with a group and reserve a table together, see you March 19. This arrangement of River featuring Janiece Jaffe will be part of the program. Would love to hear about your favorite Joni Mitchell tunes and memories!

More exciting news - I will be one of the Bloomington TedX speakers on April 17. My big idea is that we need to train our brains to embrace the moment in order to move forward into new opportunities. The place and livestream details are not all set yet, I'll keep you updated. In the meantime I would love to collect stories from moments where embracing the moment, improvising and moving forward opened new doors and opportunities for you - send me your stories!

The first broadcast of Talking Jazz on WICR, Indianapolis is this Fridays 8pm. Of course, WETF, South Bend, is still hosting on Thursdays 11am and Mondays 7pm. And all episodes end up on my Youtube channel with visuals - here is the latest episode with Ada Rovatti Brecker, a very special conversation on shaping her own brand and helping to continue the Brecker Brothers legacy.

We will present a few livestreams in March starting March 6, 6pm on Facebook with a program of Chick Corea's music and some personal memories. I'll include some tidbits from my book Experiencing Chick Corea and all of my favorite tunes.

We finished a wonderful edition of the Indiana Jazz History class with 42 participants from all over the US, greetings to all of you and best wishes to everyone else, can't wait to see you again!
