"Inner Vision" Opening Reception

The newest Red Gate Gallery exhibit, Inner Vision, asks: What do we see when we close our eyes, in our dreams, or in quiet moments? How can the practice of the spirit travel with us wherever we go? How do the Divine, the world, or nature communicate to us, and what images do they use? Upcycled Fashion Workshop
Red Gate Community Health & Wellness Program
Saturday September 5, 6-8 PM
In conjunction with Inner Vision, Red Gate will host an Upcycled Fashion Workshop, Community Clothing Swap, & Fashion Show, led by Summer 2026 Artist in Residence Erin Renée Roberts. The workshop will culminate at 7 PM in a community clothing swap and fashion showcase featuring participants’ redesigned garments. This event is part of Red Gate’s Community Health & Wellness Program.

Kick Off the Fall with Us!
Please join us for our two-part kick-off!
Part 1: Sunday September 13, 10 AM on the Garth - After a summer of travel, rest, and scattered schedules, let’s come together again to share good food and good company! We’ll have a potluck picnic outside on Garth, and Ms. Joyce is planning games, art, face painting, and other fun activities for the kids in the Fellowship Hall. The church will provide hotdogs, hamburgers, and veggie burgers, and we ask everyone to contribute to our potluck meal. Please try to fit your dish into the category assigned to the first letter of your last name:
A-C: Side dish or bread; D-N: Dessert; O-Z: Green or fruit salad
Part 2: Sunday September 20, 10 AM in the Sanctuary - We’ll continue our Fall Kick-Off on Sunday September 20th, when the Chancel Choir will return and we’ll be back in the Sanctuary after our summer in the Chapel.

No-Sew Blankets - Request for Fabric Donations
Mission & Outreach will host another workshop in the fall to make no-sew fleece blankets for hospice patients. Please consider donating fleece fabric so we can make even more blankets this time - Each blanket requires two pieces of fleece, either 4 × 5 feet or 5 × 6 feet. Ideally, one piece should be a solid color and the other a coordinating pattern.

Isaiah 58 Ministries August Donations
Each month our mission partner, Isaiah 58, requests specific food, pantry essentials, personal care items, and cleaning supplies for their Bag of Blessings program. The August requests are: peanut butter, deluxe mac & cheese, shelf stable/dry milk, bar soap, deodorant, and paper towels. Bring your donations to church and place them in the Isaiah 58 collection box!

Save the date for SHED’s (Sustainable Housing and Equitable Development) days of service - October 10-11. Volunteers will assist University City’s seniors, veterans, and disabled residents with minor exterior home repair and yard work. Stay tuned for the sign-up link!

In Remembrance...
We share the news of the deaths of two individuals who were instrumental in the United Church of Christ: Rev. Derek Terry and Rev. Dr. Barbara Brown Zikmund.
| | Rev. Derek Terry, the Executive Director of the Open and Affirming Coalition of the UCC and pastor of St. Peter's UCC in Cincinnati unexpectedly died on August 8, 2026. A joint statement from the UCC and ONA Coalition says, "Rev. Terry brought to his calling a powerful voice to conversations on civil rights, racial and social justice, LGBTQ+ inclusion, income inequality, body positivity, and courageous living. His preaching and teachings called people to deeper compassion, creative resistance, and a more inclusive vision of the church. His big heart, warm spirit, and passion for bringing justice to the world will be missed by all who knew, worked alongside, and partnered with him in the struggle. Rev. Terry’s passing is a devastating loss to many for whom he was family, friend, mentor, and confidant." You can read the full statement HERE and Rev. Terry's obituary HERE. | | Rev. Dr. Barbara Brown Zikmund passed away on August 18 at the age of 87. Rev. Dr. Zikmund was an American historian of religion and a major figure in theological education and church history. She was especially known for her scholarship on women in ministry and the history of the United Church of Christ, especially the hidden histories that have and will shape our denomination’s story for years to come. She was one of the first women to be ordained by the UCC in 1964, the first woman to teach at Chicago Theological Seminary, the first woman to serve as dean of the faculty at The Pacific School of Religion, the first woman elected president of the Association of Theological Schools, and the first woman to become president of Hartford Theological Seminary.
