The Yellow House team is committed to creating comfortable and accountable spaces for students who identify as Queer, and/or Trans, and/or Black, and/or Indigenous, and/or People of Colour (QTBIPoC) to feel safe, to create community, to feel empowered, to celebrate their identity and to flourish. We seek to engage QTBIPoC students in initiatives that actively dismantle oppressive, racist and colonial ideologies and practices.

Throwback

Black History and Futures Month: We've had so many incredible events this Black History and Futures month! The Hyve Takeover highlighted Black student entrepreneurs on campus and offered little moments of self care with a skincare session with Afiya Beauty. Students also contributed to a paint-by-numbers mural designed by Yellow House student staff, Kizzy Johnson. We're excited to gift this to the Queen's Black Clubs Caucus for The Black Liberations Commons. Students gathered at the Mitchell Hall kitchen to make Jerk Tofu on Hawaiian rolls; QBFA also had their show, Swimming in Circles! Congratulations to them and their talented team.

Reelout: The “reelout queer film + video festival” was originally established as a working group OPIRG Kingston in 1999 at 51 Bader Lane (The Grey House) on Queen’s University Campus. The festival has evolved over the years to a well renowned and internationally recognized by filmmakers and film festivals as a respected festival. Yellow House Student Staff Kizzy, Zen and Lauren attended "We Forgot to Break Up" at the opening on February 1!

Alumni Panel: Cultivating Hope in Times of Grief

Attendees will hear from a panel of Queen’s alumni who engaged in social justice and anti-racism organizing on campus during their time at Queen’s, and who have continued this important work in the world after graduation. Panelists will share about their work at Queen’s and post-graduation,

highlighting learnings in avoiding burnout, building solidarity for collective action, the value of radical care in this work, and more. Panel discussion will be followed by a social networking event to inspire new connections and potential future collaborations. Meet the panelists.
