August's Most Mischievous!
Meet Buddy Dawg:
He loves to be in the middle of what’s happening! Here — one in a hole. Buddy hopped in a hole dug while planting roses. Note the innocent look on his little face! Disclaimer: no yorkies were harmed in the making of this moment! Buddy was rescued!
Is your little yorkie mischievous? Click here to send us a photo of them caught in the act or with that guilty face afterward and tell us the story! Your little troublemaker could be featured in our next issue!
New Beginnings
Diggy with his new digs
He's got on his Panama hat and bowtie. Ready for beach!! We are in love with how happy this guy is! Thank you to his foster family for loving him so much!
Raisin with his new parents
Raisin is finding love with his new family, he was their missing puzzle piece! Thank you for loving him so much!

AUGUST'S FEATURED RESCUE
Coming soon to middle Tennessee!!
Bentley is 7.5 year old gentleman with exquisite taste in toys and companions. His mommy and daddy love him so very much, but as their lives are changing they feel as if Bentley would be happier spending his next 7.5 years in a home more able to give him all of the spoils he deserves. He plays well with his foster brother, is a bit shy toward children and is much happier away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Stay tuned to www.yorkierescue.com for more information and to apply for this bundle of love!

School is in session!
It's back to school time for the kiddos, but what about the yorkies? A bored yorkie is a mischievous yorkie, we all know this! So how can you keep your little student out of trouble this fall?

Engage your pup's brain in fun, stimulating games and training activities!

Here are some great ideas to get you started:

Turn dinner time into exploring time!

There are feeding toys that are designed to engage the pup's brain or you can create your own. Grab a muffin tin and enough tennis balls to fill each cup. Put a portion of food into each cup and top with the balls. Your pup will move the balls out of each cup and enjoy the treats or dinner inside!

Teach a new trick!

There are no shortage of videos on youtube or other platforms that will teach you step by step how to teach your pup each trick.
Play the name game!

Teach your darling the names of his favorite toys.
  • Start with a toy your dog recognizes
  • Tell your dog to get the toy (using the toy's name) and praise/treat when he is successful several times
  • Add two other items your dog is less excited about (not toys) and continue asking your dog to get the specific toy. Praise and reward when he is successful.
  • Repeat the process until he successfully recognizes his toy by name.
  • Change out that toy with another and repeat the process

Hi Everyone,

I hope you're enjoying your summer where ever you are on the map. Parts of California are on fire and parts are experiencing a frightening degree of daught, I've never seen the lakes as low as they are this year. Tennessee is still green and growing all the summer crops without much difficulty and my Bee friends are telling me that it was a perfect year for the honey bee's so there will be plenty of honey this year.

I asked Dan what I should write about this month and he thought that we should try to let everyone know how important it is to microchip your dog. Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue microchips all of our dogs when we get them and the dogs chips stay registered to YTNR for the life of the dog, we maintain our own database so we always know when one of our dogs falls back into the system and we can pick it up and find out what happened.

However if you didn't adopt your dog from us you should still consider microchipping your pet so that if for some reason something happened you would more likely be able to find him or her. This past month several of Dan's friends dogs went missing and it's a terrible thing to go through as an owner and pet lover. Dan is sure one of the dogs was stolen so if it's found and if it is microchipped it will be easier to prove ownership. We use AVID microchips and have for 25 years now, they are an established and reliable company with 24 hour service lines available if needed.

Thanks to everyone for supporting the work we are doing, we always need more volunteers in every State and all donations small or large help us to continue to help the more needy of the little dogs that come our way. We couldn't do it without you.

love...
MaryElizabeth and Dan
