SEPTEMBER 9TH, 2020
“The bad news is nothing lasts forever,
The good news is nothing lasts forever.”

― J. Cole
If you've ever spent time on the shores of Lake Michigan, or the shores of any large body of water, you know that things constantly change. The tides shift, the waves crash, and everything looks different than it did 24 hours prior. The sand and the stone that create each shoreline are always being tested by the power of motion.

I have a personal affinity towards rocks. I couldn't imagine time better spent than walking the shores of Lake Michigan searching for rocks. The shape and texture of each stone and the story they possess for how they got that way, keeps me fully engaged with what lays underfoot. I am giddy just thinking about it!

I feel a connection to the Earth when I'm holding something simple like rocks and wasting hours of my life admiring them. Seriously, hours. We live on one large rock [our plant], made up of billions, heck trillions, of smaller unique rocks. And just like there are billions of different rocks, there are billions of different people. Each of us churning in the day to day tides of life, being molded and shaped into something different. Each of us being tested by waves of intentional and reactive behaviors and circumstances. Perhaps there is not a change we see in the day to day narrative, but with time, there is definite transformation.

"EVERYTHING CHANGES, even stone."
-Claude Monet

You will change. Your business will change. Your employees will change. Your favorite TV personality will change. I will change. The reason we change may not always be identified, but the outcome can be controlled by the response you have to it. I encourage you to be open-minded to opportunities to alter your course, your purpose, your behavior, and your response. And no different than I can hold a smooth circle of basalt beach stone and smile, the version of who you are today, someone else is admiring. Admiration of change in oneself and change in others is what helps us stay connected. So don't think of the change you may be experiencing as an opposing nemesis, think of it as a welcomed opportunity.
Keep smiling, keep sanitizing, and stay safe!

MORE THAN A BENCH...
IT'S ABOUT BUDDIES
Seeds of Hope is proud to announce the installation of the new Buddy Bench located outside the Matheson Memorial Library in Elkhorn. The Bench was a vision of Jamie Stiling-Stepp, Founder of Seeds of Hope. Stilling-Stepp recalls a participant who had a hard time pronouncing the name of a fellow participant because they grew up in a different culture than the other participant. Seeds of Hope worked with the two individuals by focusing on their similarities rather than their differences.
