Congratulations to Dr. Mustache

Gales Creek Camp is lucky have every one of the best doctors in the world volunteering at camp each year. It's true, but you don't have to take our word for it.

This year, Dr. Eugene "Mustache" Nicholson was recognized with the David Lawrence national award for outstanding community service among Kaiser Permanente employees and physicians who go above and beyond to advance their mission to improve the health of communities.

For going on 14 summers running, Dr. Mustache has certainly helped advance our mission. From volunteering as a Camp Doc each year to serving on our Board of Directors, Dr. Mustache has made an incredible impact on camp--and still does!

Kaiser Permanente also makes a $10,000 charitable contribution on behalf of the award recipient to the nonprofit of their choice. Guess who Dr. Mustache told them to give that to? Thanks to Dr. Nicholson and Kaiser Permanente!

This month:

Dr. Marcie Drury Brown sees it differently

Since 2004, Dr. Marcie Drury Brown has gone by "Dr. Gromit" at camp. She's been taking care of our kids for 20 years, and in that time she's developed a unique approach to care.

Join us as she shares her approach and answers your questions from a different point of view.

Dr. Drury Brown also served on the Board of JDRF for six years in the role of Research Information Volunteer and has a broad understanding of current research, so bring those questions. Plus, like many of our campers, she lives with Celiac and can answer questions about that, too.

April 18 @ 7pm on Zoom

Dr. Drury Brown is a pediatric endocrinologist at Providence, and she was named a "Top Doctor" by Portland Monthly. She also serves on Gales Creek Camp's Board of Directors, providing year-around medical planning and oversight.

Join the conversation April 18 at 7pm!

About Hope-Mongering:

Each month we recruit an array of key voices to host a series of conversations: parents, young adults who grew up with T1D, health coaches, educators, dietitians, T1D doctors and nurses, and of course the GCC summer camp crew. It's a magic formula for conversation on raising a young person with T1D. We'd love for you to join us and add your voice, or just sit back and listen. Feel free to bring topics or questions.

Let's find that cure!

At GCC we’re all about Camping Until There is a Cure! Our diabetes partner who is doing the work of finding that that cure is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

JDRF is holding their Annual HOPE Gala on Saturday, April 27th, 2024, at the Sentinel Hotel.

GCC has always donated a "One Week of Camp" package and some awesome GCC Swag to JDRF for the silent auction.

Get tickets to the auction or just bid from your phone at home!

Another way to support JDRF and honor your favorite T1D camper is to create an Inspired HOPE Basket to donate for the silent auction
