Animal Science
This week we would like to highlight one of our most popular majors, Animal Science! Animal science careers are abundant in the agricultural world. MJC Animal Science faculty can assist you to determine courses that will help you launch your career, clubs for involvement and scholarships available to help students along the way. Not to mention there are always events happening that will strengthen your hands-on experiences!
HACU & Google Summit
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities is once again partnering with Google to co-host a Hispanic Student Leadership Summit in Austin, TX, on April 5-6, 2019. Google will select 50 undergraduate student leaders with a passion for tech and an interest in growing their leadership skills for the two-day summit. The agenda will include breakout discussions, networking with the Hispanic Google Network, student group presentations, and a unique celebration for Summit attendees.
MJC Winter Classic
The Modesto Junior College Animal Science group hosted a beef cattle jackpot show on the weekend of January 25–27, 2019. They had a very successful weekend of showing. On Friday night, the showman competed in showmanship. On Saturday, all of the market animals competed. The market beef includes both steers and heifers. On Sunday was the breed show. Heifers were shown and competed by their breed.

Extension Services Workshop
Are you interested in a job as a farm advisor? Do you know what a job in extension services looks like? These workshops can help you learn about the internships offered within this career field and help you learn what an extension agent / farm advisor does. These workshops are hosted in the student lounge (Ag 126) at the agriculture and environmental science building on east campus. Look for the signup in Ag 126 to attend the next one.

Denver & Arizona Nationals
The MJC Livestock Judging teams have been very productive since the start of the new year. Traveling across California, Arizona, and Colorado for competitions, the memories made and experiences gained are phenomenal for this group of individuals. Spring 2019 Young Farmer Officers
Young Farmers is a club that is based in the MJC Agriculture department. It hosts events and activities such as the upcoming basketball tournament that brings students together with similar backgrounds and interests. It is led by students elected by the club members, and by two professors in the agriculture department, Mr. Amador and Mrs. Boyd.
