Operation “Sockwave”
The First Community Bank Leadership Institute Class of 2024-25’s recent sock collection campaign was a massive success. We smashed our original goal, collecting more than 11,800 pairs of socks and monetary donations for local emergency shelters. Who were the big winners? First Community Financial Consultants who collected 1,329 pairs of socks.
Why socks?
According to the recent South Carolina State of Homelessness Report, homelessness and housing insecurity continues to increase year after year, especially with children and veterans. Socks are the single most-needed article of clothing in homeless shelters; however, they are the least donated item of all.
Donations were given to the Salvation Army Center for Hope (Augusta), Oliver Gospel Mission (Midlands), Mission Lexington (Midlands), Pathways Community Center (Piedmont) and United Ministries (Upstate).
